I stayed at this hotel for 2.5 weeks.
This is supposedly rated as a 4 star hotel but in reality its probably a 2-3 star at most. The star rating is meant to denote facilities and the Eurostars is somewhat lacking in those.
There is a restaurant/bar however this is only used for breakfasts and evening drinks. The bar shuts at 10pm. It is not open at the weekends. Breakfast is a depressing affair. When I tried it the staff were conspicuous by their absence. I came down for 7.30 am and there was little choice. Other food did appear but towards 8 oclock which was too late for me & the other 2 diners. The food choice was minimal but not horrific. Just uninspiring and not much choice.
As to hotel rooms: my room was on the top floor. If you like waking up at 5.30 am then its the floor for you! The top floor rooms have skylights which have no blinds. That means the light comes in very early and its impossible to sleep passed that unless you're a heavy sleeper. Also the rooms on the top floor have tiny windows.
The rooms are ok. Nothing special and certainly not 4 star. There is a microwave (odd but useful), mini bar (actually reasonable process for a hotel) and coffee making facilities.
The bathrooms are ok. They are marble and mine had yellowed over the years no doubt from continuous exposure to men who can't aim properly when they pee.
My bed was quite comfortable. Firm mattress although quite large pillows. My colleague's bed was in a poor state and had to ask to move rooms which was accommodated very pleasantly and efficiently.
The staff are nice and helpful (their best feature). The wifi works most of the time pretty well with only the occasional dip.
The corridors were very scruffy and in some cases quite stinky.
I'm not sure if I'd stay here again or not. I think it would depend on whether I could get a better rate at the nearby Andaz (which is excellent).
I think staying here is pot luck with the rooms. The second room my colleague was given was far superior to either mine or her first one.
Being a more budget hotel means a different crowd of people. I was woken up on both Saturday nights I was there by drunken people shouting in the corridors at 2.30 am. Not fun.
Over all this is an OK hotel that needs...
Read moreThe hotel is undoubtedly in a great location close to several subway stations and lower Manhattan. It's within walking distance of Chinatown, The Brooklyn Bridge and South Ferry. Though if you're after evening nightlife and restaurants, you will have to walk at least a few blocks as most of the places in the immediate vicinity are closed after normal working hours. ||The hotel itself is decent enough, it's got all the amenities needed and has very spacious rooms for the area. It is let down however by its general state of repair and a feeling of lack of care. The whole place feels very dated and rough around the edges, you've got scratched and scuffed walls and paint, broken picture frames, furniture full of marks and scratches. It just feels like it needs a complete refurb and it was maybe nice like 10-15 years ago. |In terms of cleaning. The room seemed clean enough when we arrived, though the pillows sticking out of the cases did have some stains. But the standard of housekeeping throughout our stay was very basic. They just came in and made the bed, emptied the bin, folded the towels and replenished the toilet paper. It didn't even seem like they had swept the floor, they didn't replace the glasses in the bathroom. |The worst though was that on two occasions our room was left open and unlocked by the housekeeping staff. It seemed that the door should slam shut and lock when closed but it just stayed ajar if not pulled closed. We mentioned this to the receptionist who sent someone to "fix" it, but it happened again! Luckily nothing was taken but literally anyone could have walked into our room whilst we were out which made us feel a little anxious whilst out...
