I am honestly quite surprised by any positive review of this building because my experience has been far from positive.
For context, I have lived in the area for a couple of years and I am shocked that Ellington is renting apartments at the current price point for the quality they offer. While they claim to be a luxury apartment building, the experience of living here is not up to par at all.
This is an old building and while the appearances have been recently updated, the infrastructure is very old and it shows. The water pressure is abysmal and paired with the bad water heating means you cannot get a nice hot shower. It also means washing dishes is a pain.
All the appliances are old and on the verge of breaking. The AC is constantly in need of repair. I have lived here 2 months and have needed to repair the 3 HVAC units in my apartment 5 times (pending another maintenance).
As if this is not enough, the sound proofing is terrible. At the end of a long day, I am greeted to blaring sirens and incessant car honks that I can hear all the way on the 27th floor. I understand some noise is to be expected, given we are in midtown. But the noise level is outrageous. There is virtually no difference between the windows closed and open.
Moreover, the building is located right between a couple of flashing billboards and theaters. So, there is a constant unpleasant glow of neon lights and/or flashing lights from the outside.
I would heavily reconsider if you are looking at this apartment building. It doesn’t come with the standard qualities you would expect from a luxury apartment and you will likely be overpaying for any unit here. You will constantly have to repair appliances and it is anything but a peaceful place to stay.
Update: Management asked me to take down my negative review. That is pretty infuriating because potential tenants should be cognizant of the real issues with living in Ellington. I wish someone had informed me of these issues prior to me signing the lease. Additionally, this makes me think the current rating is artificially high because management tries to get tenants to modify any negative review.
Management also says they are committed to working to resolve issues. However, they don’t respond to emails in a timely manner and often dismiss concerns. They only reached out once they saw this...
Read moreI looked at 5 buildings in the neighborhood of the Ellington. Although the Ellington does not have the most amenities(most of which people don’t actually use) it has washers and dryers on each floor and a gym in the basement that was completely adequate and they don’t charge to use it. Besides the extremely convenient location and great apartment layouts, however, it’s the staff that is miles above the competition. When I called the leasing office Alex spent 30 minutes on the phone with me and then invited me to make an appointment to see the apartment. He was very knowledgeable on each of the available apartments and even advised on garages in the area, which nobody does. When I arrived the building manager came up to the apartment to answer any questions and offered to change out the blinds for newer solar shades. She then introduced me to the doorman to arrange to reserve the elevator for move in. Everything was live, in person with a courteous professional. In each of the other 4 buildings I was told to make an appointment on line and when I arrived 2 didn’t have my appointment and one literally tossed the keys at me and told me to call some in another state if I had questions! If you’re looking for a Hells Kitchen/midtown apartment call the...
Read moreI have lived at The Ellington for 16 years, and it’s the only building in Manhattan that I’ve ever in! Over the years, I’ve even moved apartments within the building, and that experience was also seamless and perfect. The apartments here are notably more spacious than those in other doorman buildings in the area, and the pricing is much more competitive as well. Although the building itself dates back to the late 1980s, the apartments have been thoughtfully renovated over time, offering modern and stylish interiors. One feature I particularly appreciate is the on-site gym, which is included without any additional fees—a rarity in the city. The building’s staff, including the super and team members like Raul, Juan, and Pedro, are incredibly friendly and responsive. Anytime I’ve needed a repair or replacement, it’s been handled quickly and efficiently, which makes living here all the more stress-free. One amenity I’ve always wished for is outdoor space, and I’m thrilled that a lounge with outdoor seating is set to open in the spring of 2025! I’m eagerly looking forward to enjoying this new addition—I’m hoping it will have an outdoor shower to make the summer days even better. I can’t recommend The Ellington enough. It’s a wonderful place...
