For the first time today on 1/20/2020 I walked in to this library, I was hoping to use their computer to fill out some documents. At the front desk they gave me a one time password and the desk clerk directed me to go to the nearest stand up computers. Since I thought it was all the same I sat done next to those stand up computers. It was all the same cause I wasn’t told how to use the one time use bar code I was given. and I tried to stick that small piece of paper anywhere I thought it may enter to no avail. So I went back to the front desk person who walked me to the stand up computers where another person was also fumbling trying to figure out what to do with that little paper. After that I was sat down next to a questionable person who was just staring the computer, but since I was in a hurry didn’t care till started to talk dirty to me which really started to bother me so I got up and went to the front desk. I reported the incident to which the front desk person said: we will take action against it, however I didn’t see too much action being taken cause the stranger was talking to himself pretty loud even as I was living and nobody bothered to go to talk to him. Unless you want to check out some used old books it is not a library I would recommend for...
Read moreI come here on average, twice a week. The staff is unfriendly, disinterested, and rude. The AC doesn't work. Half of the charging stations are broken. But today was the straw that broke the camel's back. The restroom, normally in the basement in this NON-accesible building, is out of order. When I asked where another bathroom is, I was told there are no other bathrooms...in a three story library...there is only one bathroom...and it's out of order. Well, first of all, that's a lie. There has to be at least one more bathroom in the building. And since the "public" one is out of order, the staff should make the other(s) available to patrons. The Yorkville Library is one of the first Carnegie-funded branches to open in Manhattan. It's a shame that the City sees fit to treat 222 East 79th Street like garbage, considering the building is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places, and was designated as a New York City Landmark in 1967. Do better...
Read morePoorest excuse for a library. Not people or child friendly. Children's librarian never interacted with a child and sat behind plexiglass on her computer. You have to climb an ancient, scary stairway to get to the children's library (no elevator) and not wide enough to pass another family. And then the bathrooms are in the basement, down two flights from children's library. Frankly, old and young could not navigate. Stair to access library itself and no automatic door for handicapped. I can't believe this library passes federal or city mandates. Director of this library should visit other libraries to see...
