NYC has plenty of people ("customers") who try to cheat small businesses, and I understand you have to protect that. Businesses absolutely have a right to protect against loiterers and problems. Keep in mind as you read this review: I am 100% behind business' right to refuse service and kicking out loiterers.

Mixed bag. The chubby brunette with glasses was initially very rude and accused me loudly of not paying in front of other customers while trying to meet up with my husband and son who had already paid. The same woman had been extremely unhelpful when I was looking for them and kept hectoring me to pay while I was looking for them; it turns out they were outside with a game. It's not her job to help me, but Jesus Christ, can I look for two people without being bothered long enough to scan the room or send a text? I found them outside and we later moved in because it was cold. She again confronted me while my husband was moving part of the game in about paying, although he had paid for all three of us. After a lot of dirty looks and lingering with the door open so it blew cold air in on us, I guess she decided to go confirm with a manager that yes, we had paid, and she came over and said there was a heater available if we were cold. It isn't an apology exactly, but I appreciate the effort to make peace after an awkward situation. I would have rated higher if there had been an apology for being made to feel distinctly unwelcome. Questioning if I had paid was 100% warranted and if she felt ill at ease I was ripping her off, she should have helped me find them and then immediately called me on it if I "couldn't find them." The harassment and making us feel miserable was not, however. The words, "I'm sorry," go a long way.

Didn't peruse the games because I didn't feel really welcome to use and enjoy the facilities. Played a single quick game and left because of the pall cast on the evening. I appreciate that she eventually stopped and at least told us about the heater.

Edit: I didn't feel comfortable ordering food or drink, but what my husband and son ordered previously was fine. When you purposely try to make someone uncomfortable, it diminishes trust. I doubt I'll return unless this...

Okay… this was my spot before/during the pandemic. It was amazing vibes great staff, draft options, so many games and the food was top notch. My partner and I used to come here every weekend for our date night.

This week we returned for the first time after 2 years and we had a horrible experience. There was no food being served at all because they said that the kitchen was flooded the night before. They did allow outside food for this one day but it wasn’t an ideal situation. Regardless I was very understanding and we still sat down and tried to enjoy our stay.

As I’m trying to enjoy my evening with my girlfriend a male worker with glasses sat next to us and was staring at my partner and I the ENTIRE time. He kept talking to his friends about us in his not so inside voice making slick remarks and it was beyond disgusting and unprofessional. If you’re going to talk about your customers at least make sure they cant hear you. Im not sure if it’s because we’re a queer couple or if it’s because we’re black. Either way we felt very unwelcome here because of this man. I decided to remain professional instead of confronting him solely because I couldn’t care less about what he has to say/think. But im leaving a review so that he can be held accountable for his actions and hopefully learn how to treat people that don’t look like him. Especially if they’re spending money at your establishment.

The ladies working here were very kind and accommodating but I don’t think I’ll be returning to this...

The whole crew on staff is awesome. The selection of games you have at your disposal is… innumerable. You will find something to play and enjoy, even if you have to fish for a while. The games are categorized by the store, so if you’re looking for two player games for example, they are clearly marked in a specific area. They offer finger food and some other small plates. Drinks are a good selection for a gaming environment, can’t go wrong with a few glasses of wine.

The seating arrangements are excellent in my opinion, you aren’t squished into other groups and everyone there was having what seemed like a great time enjoying the games with their friends/families company.

They also have a really good selection of games for sale! I ended up playing and buying Odin’s Raven which is a faster paced two player game, which was a recommendation from the staff. Unfortunately I forgot the staff members name, but he welcomed us warmly as first timers and helped us with everything during our stay.

Overall, will return soon to try more games and recommend this...

One of the coolest places to hang out and play board games in the city on a Friday night. (Late Post: Visited on 9/30/22) For a change from our typical happy hour at a random bar, my friends and I decided to check out Hex and play Monopoly Deal. We met around 7ish and stayed until 11. We didn't notice the time pass. It was so much fun. A different experience. The staff were all very nice and helpful. We never felt rushed or pushed to order drinks or food. There's a cozy familiarity vibe among the customers and staff. It felt like you were just playing at someone's house. Sarah, our barista, was very friendly and kind. She said she used to come and play at Hex for 8 months before joining their staff. Everyone was just very welcoming and they gave out cookies around closing time. We'll definitely keep coming back. It's a nice place for us lawyers to unwind after a long work week... We also saw some doctors playing at another table. I think it's a good relaxation alternative to the usual "drinking in loud bars" weekend. Ready for game night?

On today's screen driven world, the concept of this place is great: come in, grab a real world good old fashioned board or card game and play away with your family and friends. Hex and Co also offers a basic food and drinks menu. There is a flat rate fee to start and then you can pick any one of the hundreds of games, there is no time limit. Restrooms are on site. One thing to remember is that most of these games take time to setup and to learn the rules so kids may need a lot of patients to actually enjoy their time there. In addition some boxes may have just a quick guide inside the box so you may need to find a more comprehensive resource before you can enjoy the games. Play away!

An only one-of-its-kind board game cafe in the upper east side and super affordable. You can spend hours of happy, device-free time here discovering new games or playing your favorites. You’ll find multiple of everything from Catan and Sequence and Battleship to obscure games like “Marrying Mr. Darcy.” 😛 Vibe is very nice and fun.. staff is super cool and helpful. Menu has more food options than the details available on Google — and the food is good for a and they have beers on tap as well. PRO TIP: Bring your layers because the place has so many people coming and going constantly, it gets chilly even inside!
