I have had the chance to work with the good folks at GC Physical Therapy twice in the past year. The first time was after a severe dog bite that severed some tendons in my pinkie finger. It looked like a small thing, but took months to get my finger and hand working again. During that time, I met with Dave weekly to go through my exercises and stretches and routines that got me back to working shape. He was a complete professional, taking his role in my recovery very seriously. This wasn't just a soak in hot wax and a little massage for the finger. He had me doing increasingly difficult exercises which retaught my finger how to work. Although he takes his job seriously, he is a delightful guy, who is easy to talk with and understanding about pain threshold and the reality of doing the work to rehab your hand. I am happy to report that my hand and finger are 100% better. I sometimes have to really search for the scar to figure out which finger it was.
A few months after my first encounter with GC Physical Therapy I gave birth to twins. The strain of a difficult pregnancy meant that my back and stomach, really my core, needed serious help. My back was seizing frequently and the pain I was experiencing was not enhancing my enjoyment of being a first time mom. After consulting with my OBGYN and pelvic specialist, it was determined I needed physical therapy. Due to my overwhelming positive experience with Dave, I called GC Physical Therapy as I recalled they provided all sorts of rehab options. I was happy to start working with Hector on my back and core. He too takes his job very seriously as he realizes we are busy people who need their bodies to work for them. He is helping me slowly increase my core strength while wisely focusing on other ancillary muscle groups that a mom of twins must strengthen. Again, he is not only excellent at the technical aspect of his job, he is also a nice guy. He is someone you are immediately comfortable with and someone you know is going to tell you the truth about the timeline and necessary work ahead.
I don't hope to need any more physical therapy for a while, but if I do, I am so glad to know that I have the perfect place to go for the professional and accurate attention desired.
Oh, and the two women and the front desk, who handle insurance and scheduling and everything in between, could not be more friendly, courteous and on top of things.
This is a first rate operation, and clearly very easy to get to in the Graybar Building at...
Read moreI have known David Ricci of Grand Central Therapy as my occupational therapist for 3.5 years, receiving about 17 months of therapy in the aggregate after 3 invasive hand surgeries due to an aggressive form of dupuytren’s contracture.
David is a proficient occupational therapist with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. His enthusiasm, problem solving skills and helpful nature have enabled me to effectively manage the disease afflicting my hands. David keeps focused on the goal and has a simple but well communicated strategy for keeping my hands functional. He listens attentively to my needs, and home and work environment and looks to both the short and long term for the health and function of my hands. David’s instructions are concise and clear. David’s “home-made” casts (to keep my fingers straight) has been an essential part of my healing and therapy. His attention to comfort is key as sustainability is the path to my wearing the brace for lengthy periods of time each day.
My recent surgery was during the COVID pandemic. Even after elective surgery was allowed, I was not willing to have the surgery until I knew that David would be able to be my hand therapist. He opened his office for me. For that I will be ever eternally grateful. I could have gone to another therapist as I have been working from home and do not need to commute into NYC. However, I have had such success with David that I commute into the city from Westchester County just for therapy and then commute out again to work at home. The reason that my hands are as functional as they can be is due to David. I highly recommend David as your choice for an...
Read moreI have never met a physical therapist like Hector: extremely competent and knowledgeable in his work, deeply dedicated to his duty, and genuinely caring about his patients and their wellbeing.
I was Hector’s patient for nearly a year during the pandemic period when my neck pain significantly deteriorated. Hector was there at the time when I needed it most. The first day I met Hector I knew he was the right person. He answered all my questions, explaining root causes and consequences of my pain in a very clear and comprehensive way. And every time I had new questions, he always addressed them thoroughly. During the following months Hector was carefully guiding my exercises, monitoring my progress, and adapting tasks as needed. Just in a few weeks I started to notice improvements, with my muscles consistently strengthened. When sharing with Hector my joy of feeling no pain, I remember him saying that patient’s progress is the best reward for him. This made me realise and deeply appreciate Hector’s strong commitment and passion for what he does. For him, physical therapy is more than just a job, it’s a mission to help people and make them feel better, which he tirelessly, wholeheartedly and successfully accomplishes.
I highly recommend Hector as the best physical therapist in the city, if not in the entire nation. I tried quite a few physical therapists before I found Hector’s practice, but none was so professional, intelligent and considerate as he is. And above all, Hector has a kind and compassionate heart which is precious today more than ever and is a blessing to anyone who is fortunate enough to become...
