Unique store with gold, platinum & Diamond jewelry
The following is a review of one of the most amazing and unique jewelry stores in all of New York City that I have visited so far within the last thirty five years or so. This is a Vietnamese jewelry store that carries a vast array of 24 karat gold jewelry which includes necklaces, bracelets, bangles, rings, charms and pendants of varying designs and shapes. They also carry 14k and 18k jewelry and have a full wall display dedicated to platinum jewelry which also consists of necklaces, rings and pendants made entirely of pure platinum. This store also specializes in diamond engagement rings. As if this was not enough, they also stock gold and platinum bullion in the form of coins and bars of different weights ranging from half an ounce to over a kilo. For coin collectors looking to add to their private collection, the store has certified American Eagle proof platinum coins in addition to gold proof American Eagle and Buffalo coins. The customer service in this store is exceptionally high and they have a huge client base that has been loyal for many decades. Each time I visited the store it was packed with customers. I did a very thorough comparison between this store and all the other stores in the immediate area and very quickly found out that the prices here are significantly lower than the rest of the jewelry stores that sell similar products. The owner explained to me that their low prices are possible because she had purchased a vast amount of gold bullion in early 2016 when gold spot price was around $1240 an ounce. This same gold bullion is now used to make their 24k gold jewelry products, thereby passing the savings on to the customer. The reason what led me to review this store was that I had personally purchased a custom designed 24k gold pinkie ring and when she quoted me a price I was actually shocked as to how low the price was compared to the spot price of gold on that day, and also compared to what other stores were charging for labor on the same item. Perhaps the best attribute of this place is the owner Kathy. This woman has such a sweet personality and it shows immediately. She is very quick to give a fair price on her jewelry and no matter how busy the store is she always seems to find a way to give personal one on one service to each customer. However, what makes this store particularly unique is their ability to make custom 24 karat gold jewelry of any design or size. I was shown a 2 kilo 24k gold chain with dragon heads that had ruby eyes. This particular chain was a Bhat chain which is very common in Vietnam. Back in the early 1980’s almost all the Chinese jewelry stores on Canal street were able to make 24 karat gold Bhat chains. Nowadays Happy Diamond Angel Jewelry is the only one that can make them. Remember what they say : “gold is money”, and with the low prices at this particular store, any 24 karat gold chain, ring or pendant that you purchase here can only become more valuable as time goes by, because the labor cost of the 24k gold jewelry charged here is so low compared to the competition in the area. For the serious investor, the store also sells 1 kilo 24 karat gold bullion bars from established refiners like...
Read moreI wanted a Cuban nothing crazy but decent so of course I try a store from midtown where all the rappers are going… I pick a chain put it on layaway now every time you make a payment there’s tax involved but that wasn’t the kicker. I’m almost done paying when a employee calls me tells me they have a 14 kt because I ordered a 10 so they said they had a 14 that was longer and up 3 mm by width all I had to do was put 3,000 I said sure so I go pick it up now mind you I just learned the difference between Miami Cuban and Cuban curb so I go pick it up . Anyway so I get and one day decide to check it at the pawn shop and turns out it wasn’t longer and it was 10kt which had me furious. Now I tell myself let me go old school and go back to Canal. I walk by this store and it called me. I walk in meet Kathy and it was on from there . Tell her what I want drop 25 bucks to hold it come back the next week And pay 1,100 and walk out happy . Come back a couple of months later and get me a piece for 500 and walk out a happy camper. Still paid much more at the other spot for bogus stuff. Kathy is the bomb and I’m happy to call her my jeweler so that’s the only place I go too. Next I might up grade and I m thinking of a ring but hands down...
Read moreThe employees are friendly and helpful, very good selection of gold necklaces, rings, pendants, earrings etc (in both white and gold) along with some unique Asian designs you won't be able to find in the Diamond District on 47st (Chinatown is the other diamond district that most people don't know about).
I gave them 3 stars because I love gemstones but they had a small selection of gemstone jewelry, mostly in small sizes (5-7mm)- amethysts, emeralds, rubies, blue sapphires, Swiss blue topaz, tournalines, London blue topaz, jade, and of course diamonds. They looked 99% heat treated which has become the industry standard unfortunately.
There was one piece that stood out in particular and that was a round blue solitaire pendant that looked like a sapphire but had a white label with "blue diamond" on it. Maybe it was mislabeled but if it wasn't, then that blue diamond pendant has been heat treated to achieve that deep sapphire blue color and very low in value compared to natural untreated fancy...
