I don’t even know where to begin because how do you put into words the gratitude of a lifetime?
Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone is more than just a hospital it’s a place where miracles happen, where families are heard, and where hope is restored. My son’s journey has been nothing short of a rollercoaster, but from the moment we arrived, I knew we were exactly where we needed to be.
The nurses? Angels on Earth. Their kindness, their patience, their unwavering support not just for my baby, but for me as a mother was beyond anything I could have imagined. They didn’t just care for my son; they cared for us. They made sure I ate, they reassured me through my darkest moments, that he will be okay.
The doctors? Brilliant doesn’t even begin to describe them. They truly are leaders in pediatric liver care. Every day, they updated me with clarity and compassion, ensuring I understood every detail of my son’s care. And the best part? They included me in the decision-making process. During family-inclusive rounds, I stood alongside them, listening, learning, and witnessing firsthand the dedication that goes into saving a life.
And then there was our social worker, a true lifeline and warrior. She didn’t just check in; she showed up for us in every possible way. She made sure we had the resources we needed, offered emotional support when the weight of it all felt unbearable, and reminded me that I wasn’t alone in this journey. I didn’t feel like just another case.
My son’s medical team wasn’t just good they were phenomenal. They weren’t just his doctors; they became his protectors, his advocates, his champions. And because of them, my baby is here today.
Hassenfeld gave my son a second chance at life, and for that, I owe them everything.
To every nurse, nurse practitioner, coordinator, surgeon, doctor, and staff member who poured their hearts into my son’s care, thank you. From the depths of my soul, thank you.
If you are looking for a hospital where your child will receive not just world-class medical care, but love, support, and a team that treats you like family, Hassenfeld is that place.
My only regret is that I didn’t know about this hospital before, and I so wish I went there sooner. I will never stop singing their praises. They saved my son, and...
Read moreHospitals are never an ideal place to have to be in but the environment and the healthcare workers here made my stay as comfortable as possible. Long story short I first ended up in the adult floor (I’m 20) where my roommate kept me up all night with noise that was impossible to sleep through, so I complained to a patient advocate who had me switched over here (thankfully the cutoff age is 21, not 18). I have diagnosed insomnia and a phobia of needles, both conditions were handled much better here than on the adult floor. I got my own room so I didn’t have to worry about a roommate worsening my sleep difficulties, and my care team even put a sign up on my door as a reminder not to disturb me at night unless medically necessary (like if my heart monitor showed anything concerning) since it’s very difficult for me to fall back asleep once awakened. The nurses were very validating and patient with my phobia of needles when drawing blood or placing an IV, they always used topical numbing and as per my request warned me before preparing the needle (as closing my eyes before seeing the needle significantly reduces my panic). The doctors who did my neck biopsy were just as empathetic and caring. I was always given a proper explanation of why everything needed to happen which I’m sure was an adjustment for the workers since kids tend to be less vocal. There’s also a playroom here with games where child-oriented group activities were held and also teen to young-adult-oriented group therapies. It makes a lot of sense why these healthcare workers chose to work in pediatrics, I never had a bad experience with a healthcare worker here as they all clearly have the patience and compassion necessary to work with kids (and occasionally young adults like me). I also want to add that the food here is shockingly good, offering many different options that provide proteins, carbs, and desserts even for those with various dietary restrictions, and that’s coming from a vegetarian who was very scared about the food situation when...

The first was a heart tumor at a severe stage that needed to be removed. The surgery went very well and I was so happy that my son was under good hands starting from Dr Achiau ludomirsky his cardiologist to his surgeon Dr Susheel Kumar to all nurses and everyone with no exception everything was perfect , the whole environment helped and toke care of my son to recover like their own . Then had a second open heart surgery a year later because of the size of his pulmonary valve that was caused by the tumor he had before . And again same team same doctors same environment contributed to an excellent and amazing work. I can’t thank enough all the doctors and nurses for the great work they have done to get my son to better shape and stronger heart and giving him a possibility of a long life again after being threatened twice by “CHD”.
