CW: Slight Transphobia, Classism & conversational Racism: Despite the title, the synagogue may be a denomination of conservative Judaism, which is often in the middle of the Jewish spectrum, but culturally was more center right, and assumed Jews who didn’t dress in a certain suit and tie aren’t actualized Shul goers or potential members. The service operator online was very helpful for paying for a Seder to related Shul info, but in person, was much more gated, restrictive, and even the cops outside were more approachable than a congregant where you want to clarify your questions. Note, the HJC is connected to in total 3 conservative / Masorti synagogues in the nearby neighborhoods, and you might think you are attending here for a service, but making sure your Hillcrest branch is the address / rabbi you need as the event and the name of the temple can be in two different locations and names. My own experiences!!! Well let me tell you on September 29, 1951 I was bar mitzvah boy that day; the synagogue on Union Turnpike had been recently completed; you see I went to Hebrew School around the corner on Kent Street and I remember walking from my home on Tudor Road with my family to the new synagogue on Union Turnpike. Rabbi Moshowitz was my Rabbi. My cousin recently mailed me the prayer book that I was given at the ceremony and lo and behold.... there is a label on the inside that says the was a gift from Junior Congregation. What a memory September 29, 1951.......69 years ago. I am blessed that I have lived this long . And do you know what...it has been quite the journey...

Warm welcoming egalitarian center. contrary to the spin of the demographic disappearance of the conservative movement, HJC is growing in multiple generations. Warm and welcoming from the Rabbi, Cantor and all the congregation. I was suprised ( although we shouldnt be) at the warm welcoming attitude for all. Opportunities for learning, prayer and simple fun abound. People are there for you- a lacking...
