This is a serious Iyengar Yoga studio, but it is completely novice-friendly and welcoming to new students.
The space is beautiful, immaculate, serene, and extremely well equipped with all the props you could ever want. No need to schlep your own mat.
The instructors are experienced, professional and extremely well equipped to deal with students at all levels of experience and dedication to the practice of yoga. They offer the most thorough, clear yoga instruction I have ever had. There is a prevailing attitude that yoga is for everybody. No judgement โ just incredible support, guidance and a willingness to share their knowledge.
I wouldnโt consider practicing anywhere else.
In addition to the amazing classes, they offer weekend workshops which focus on different body parts: hips, back, shoulders etc. The workshops are reasonably priced considering the quality and the amount of relevant information shared. One comes away from these workshops with a deeper understanding of how the body works and how to manage it.
I always feel amazing after class. My posture has improved and as time passes, my lower back pain keeps diminishing. I credit this studio for improving my posture, yoga practice and my musculoskeletal...
ย ย ย Read moreCareful if you come to intermediate class with Lara, prepare to be heckled more than usual. I guess this is iyengar with a New York attitude, which was almost too much for me to handle. Vibe from the group was pretty cold & cliquey. Also pretty NYC but other studios here will provide more warmth. I give 4 stars because of how incredible I felt after the intelligent and deep sequencing we were led thru. You get to really workshop your alignment in a way no other classes will do. Unfortunately the deep rest was broken by more incessant analytical speech - canโt we just rest in the stillness on our way out? I prefer classes where there is more loving kindness, quiet/meditative quality, relaxation other than cue to relax your mouth and throat... Also if you do come, there are cards upstairs with a code to pay $10 for first class. No one at the desk told me about that and I paid full...
ย ย ย Read moreAlways the best Edit: elaborating a bit in this, I've tried many yoga places in NYC and around the country, but Iyengar is bar none the best yoga (in my opinion of course). The instruction is very detailed with no BS. Whereas other places/styles are wishy washy with their poses and add a lot of hogwash, Iyengar is there to the rescue. I like to think of Iyengar as the Michelin star of yoga. Or put another way, what MMA is to martial arts, Iyengar is to yoga, the real deal. It helped me a few years ago with some back problems, whereas other places did next to nothing. There's enough BS in the world, so do yourself a favor and do Iyengar yoga rather than some other random style of instruction. Try classes with different instructors to get a sense of why I'm writing this review. Some you will like more than others, but the essence will be there for you...
