I’ve been a big fan of 8Bit Bites ever since I tried their original flagship spot in Brooklyn. Their menu is packed with flavorful items—everything I’ve eaten so far has been consistently tasty. Even the Oreo shake, though it needs a little work in my opinion, still hits the spot when you’re craving something sweet. Overall, from a purely food-based standpoint, 8Bit Bites doesn’t disappoint.
However, my recent visit to their Chelsea location was a whole different story when it came to safety and atmosphere. First off, the space itself is very small, which is understandable given New York’s sky-high rent, but it left me feeling cramped. While I was waiting for my order, a random man came in off the street, snatched someone else’s pickup meal, and forced himself into a seat—despite every table being occupied. Tensions escalated when another customer confronted him, and before I knew it, they were fighting. Things got so out of hand that chairs were thrown, and one even struck me on the forearm hard enough that I ended up in urgent care.
Suffice it to say, that’s not the experience I expected while grabbing food. I don’t blame 8Bit Bites for an unruly passerby, but there’s clearly a need for better safety measures. The cramped space and lack of any real security made it hard to prevent the situation from exploding. It’s unfortunate that my meal—which was really good—was overshadowed by the chaos.
In conclusion, 8Bit Bites still shines in terms of flavor. If you’re looking for a tasty meal, their menu won’t disappoint. Just be warned that at the Chelsea location, space is tight, and you might not feel totally comfortable if things get busy or if unexpected trouble comes in off the street. My advice? Maybe order their food to go, especially if you’re looking to avoid any potential drama. Despite the amazing eats, I hope they improve the safety and crowd-control in the future.

Read moreI walked in to this place around 10:15p on Sunday, August 31, 2025 with my wife and 2 kids. There were 3 people sitting at a table playing a video game because that's exactly what you'd think people would be doing at a place like this. One of the people asked me if this was my first time there. I said yes and they, while still playing their video game, told me the menus were on the counter at the back of the restaurant. It took me a moment to realize that the person that told me this while playing a video game apparently worked there. As I walked towards the back of the restaurant to look at the menu, I told her I'd just be a minute and I'd be ready to order. She didn't really even look up from her video game. After I looked at the menu and was ready to order, I looked around and the girl was still at the table playing the video game. I leaned back in to her group told her I was ready. She responded by saying she needed a few more minutes to finish her game. I told her then I'm going to leave and her exact response was "fine." So, I left. Not sure I've ever interacted with someone so apathetic about a customer ready to spend some money. I'm sure the video game was engaging to her, but we won't ever be going back there and I'd suggest if you don't want to feel worthless to an establishment like this, you don't go there either. I took the picture of the outside of this place to make sure I remembered what it was called to write this review. Now that I've written it, I'd like...
Read moreThis was not our intended place at first, took Mom out for the night to grab a bite to eat but by the time we got there, our first place was closed so this was the nearest alternative halal option spot within short walking distance that was actually open till late night and fortunately it worked out for us and we didn't need to call ahead or make reservations.
Mom went with 3 piece tenders & fries and I went with fully loaded burger and fries with everything loaded on it, and of course, no meal is ever truly complete without a diet soda...
Place wasn't busy at all, Customer service was great, there was a cutey (an actual female I hope, getting harder and harder to tell nowadays, especially around the area, you know? It's not like I checked under the hood) at the front that took our order and for once, it was actually nice, no sass, no pasazz, no eye roll, no scorn, no undertone of any kind.
The important thing, Mom enjoyed the food and the night out, place was clean, food was served hot and prompt. I'm sure it's a regular for people who live in the area.
Edit: 8 bit is a unique chain, the theme of the place revolves around 80s-90s video game console and they actually have fully operational video games that patrons can play on their table at no additional costs. It's kid friendly and family friendly in most locations and easily can attract large fun crowds of people from out of nowhere out on the weekends partying...
