I booked an appointment on July 30th for a comb retwist with the Marley twist over my locs. Paid a $50 deposit. Prior to me booking this appointment, I had a conversation via email with Mimi to discuss what I wanted because I wasn’t sure what to book the style under or if the salon even offered the style. I sent her pictures of my locs, we had a whole conversation about what I want, pricing, etc. When I booked the appointment, I booked a comb retwist with a style (with stylist Kay). I added to the notes when booking my appointment that I had a conversation with Mimi and I will be doing the Marley twist. Fast forward to Saturday, 8/17, I sent another email asking about the time duration of my appointment so that I can set a time for something else I had going on. I just wanted to know about how long it would take. The response I got was that the stylist that I booked with wasn’t going to be able to do my hair because of the way I booked my appointment, I guess I was suppose to book the Marley twist to block out the proper amount of time. I can own that mistake, I did go back on the website and see that there was a whole other section just for that, which I didn’t see. However, I spoke to Mimi prior to booking to ask these questions and that wasn’t specifically indicated. Also, when was anybody going to contact me and let me know what I booked it wrong and adjustments need to be made? Because it was specified in the notes of my booking, exactly what I was coming for. So if somebody read the note and realized I booked it wrong, wouldn’t it make sense for somebody to call or email me? So now we’re at the day of my appointment, I still go because it’s the day before my trip and I have no choice, I started my loc journey at napp star and continue going for a year until I changed my stylist to someone closer to home. So I wasn’t too concerned, I went anyways. I get there and I am washed and retwisted by 1 stylist, she was great, but she let me know what somebody else will do the Marley twist. Fine. When she finished, Scarlett brought me over to another chair and let me know that she is going to show another stylist what to do and have her do my hair. Fine. She did about 3 of the Marley twist and let the other stylist take over. I’m not going to lie, it was not coming out right, it looked totally different from what Scarlett did. So I stopped her, called Scarlett back over and let her know I’ll just wait for the girl who did my wash and retwist to finish her client and have her do finish my hair. It’s not fair to me or the stylist, it was obviously her very first time doing the Marley twist and she only got thrown into it because there was an appointment booking issue. So I wasn’t even mad at her, wasn’t her fault. Also, it’s not fair to me because I want my hair done correctly. I just wanted to bring this to your attention because it’s unfortunate that all of this is happening and I’m paying over $400 for a style. That’s a lot of money. I got to the salon at 11:20 for my 11:45 appointment, I was brought to the bowl right away to be washed. I walked out of the salon at 6:29PM on the dot. That’s 7 hours for something that should have taken maybe 4 hours because I have thick locs and I only have 57 locs. Long post alert!!! But I promise, it’s worth the read especially if you have or are thinking about locs! Of course I wish I would’ve came here from the start but I’m a firm believer that EVERYTHING happens for a reason!! I’m at a lost for words & super pleased! They don’t lie when they say 3 times is a charm! I started my loc journey almost 5 months ago & from the very beginning I knew & understood this is a process. I thought I went to the right person the first time I started & the 2nd person as well because they were local to me. See, I live in New Castle, DE which is almost 3 hours away from this AMAZING salon! I stumbled across nappstar_nyc about a week after I got my hair “twisted” for the first time on 12/16/23 & wow was I impressed by all of their videos. I even reached out to Annette a few times & she was always kind and responded so quickly! When I went to the 2nd person to “retwist” my hair she convinced me my type of hair needed to be interlocked & I trusted her. What I soon discovered was I was just not being educated & I was misguided. Last week I decided enough was enough & I reached out to Annette & she told me that I could absolutely have a virtual consultation with someone on her staff. I immediately scheduled this for the very next day. The next day I met with one of her amazing managers Alana. And I was yet again blown away! Nothing means more to me than meeting people with great energy, who are honest, & most importantly so very kind! For the very first time I felt like I was being educated & she told me that they can most definitely give me what I was looking for & gave me all of the proper recommendations on what they need to do for my hair. I was super excited & was she emailed me what we had discussed I decided to make my appointment which was today! Yes indeed I went all the way to NY & I I’ll do it again & again! My appointment was at 9:30am & from the moment I arrived I was welcomed & greeted with so many smiles! This salon is absolutely beautiful but the best part it was filled with an ENTIRE beautiful staff! Everyone was super friendly & super professional! My stylist was Fatou & she explained everything she was going to do & she was the sweetest person! I felt relaxed & right at home! The vibe was most certainly vibing! You can tell that everyone loved being there & it was so worth my almost 3 hour trip there! I felt the difference after she crocheted the first 4-5 locs!!! And immediately starting to see the level of expertise I was getting. When I tell you that I was smiling from ear to ear from the moment I got there until I left, oh I was! I just got home about 15 minutes ago & guess what…I’m still smiling! It was worth every minute & every penny! I’m already excited to see everyone again I. The next 6-8 weeks.
