I first connected with the Jewish Art Salon during the COVID lockdown while living in Hong Kong, searching for Jewish art education and community. Thankfully, JAS had transitioned many of its programs online, and I was able to join their Zoom sessions from afar. That experience opened a door I didn’t know existed. As an artist working at the intersection of Chinese and Jewish cultures—a niche that’s often overlooked—I was welcomed with genuine interest. I had the opportunity to introduce myself and share my work, which had been featured in media interviews and international exhibitions. JAS didn’t just acknowledge my voice—they invited me to join their salon. After the pandemic, I came to New York and met the directors and fellow artists in person. Since then, I’ve participated in group exhibitions at museums and galleries and joined art events and collectives, both within and beyond JAS. Their support has been instrumental in helping me grow as an artist whose work doesn’t fit into mainstream categories. I’ve attended inspiring talks led by renowned artists and scholars such as Siona Benjamin, Archie Rand, Richard McBee, Yona Verwer, Joel Silverstein, Samantha Baskind, Tobi Kahn, and Aaron Rosen. JAS is more than an organization, it’s a lifeline for artists exploring Jewish identity in diverse and innovative ways. I’m deeply grateful for their openness, professionalism,...
Read moreThe Jewish Art Salon(JAS) is comprised of artists who identify Judaism, being Jewish, and/or Jewishness as a significant factor that contributes to each artist’s experience in the world as an individual as well as local to global member-citizen in any range of inherited and/or selected communities and contexts. JAS members’ visual practices and production straddle multiple identities within multiple frames of reference in which individual identifiers/signifiers and shared, collective and universal human experiences and conditions are interwoven. JAS is a forum that is empowering a contemporary, cutting-edge, international, deeply socially-conscious conversation – of heart, mind, body and soul – in which identity; personal to global conditions; and the power of art and vision invite critical thinking, deep feeling and transformative action. The JAS conversation continues to grow exponentially in depth, scope, span, breadth, reach, impact. Take a look at the JAS website and follow JAS exhibitions and activities, and become part of a fabulously rich, unprecedented, highly dynamic, and evolving visual discourse...
Read moreThe Jewish Art Salon is the most amazing place to view art with intellect, meaning, spirit and artistic exploration. I have been so impressed with the Open Studio discussions where art and art related Jewish topics are explored in depth with clarity, vision and offer both the artist and art lover an in-depth understanding of the art process and the meaning behind the work. The artists members of the JAS are diverse and the range of media and technique is worth the clicking journey to view individuals and examples of their work. I am uplifted from every JAS experience, and I am invigorated by what is presented each time. This site, and organization is creative...
