to this store, i want to say, get your ish together because you could be so great. i am from an area of queens closer to the city, and I've loved coming here because I feel like I'm going away to the suburbs. The aisles are wide, and I feel like I can have the time/space to look at things without being surrounded by a rush of customers, whereas other stores are more cramped.
A huge problem I have with this place is that a lot of items don't have prices, or the price labels under a product will be for a totally different product, which is confusing. it makes the store seem very unprofessional, as if it's intentionally trying to mislead. their website will also advertise products they do not have or have incorrect pricing, as youll see below.
When I got to check out I asked the cashier to read me the prices because they weren't listed for multiple items and she said I could stare at the screen and check them. She might not be aware but some people have vision problems and also she's going soooo fast (i am youngish, and am generally not slow, but still. she shouldn't be making that assumption that everyone can read a screen and decide that fast.) also, sales prices dont even show until the END of checking everything out so you dont know if you are getting charged the sale price in real time while they are scanning. no good.
when I was telling her about the price issue, she told me I could go to the parts of the store where I could scan them myself to see the prices- I didn't like that lack of taking accountability on her behalf and putting a store's job to price things properly, on me, a paying customer.
If I were her, I would have said "I know, it's a problem with the store and we're addressing it." There are so many products without prices, what is the store expecting me to do- keep on wasting my time going up to the machine to check prices myself in a different aisle, then go back an inevitably I'm going to find another product without a price and I have to keep going back to the other aisle to check prices? Not everyone has 20 minutes to waste going back and forth trying to find prices, not everyone find it easy to walk back and forth over and over again. I'm not paid to work there. this store needs to get their crap together and actually provide prices.
A side effect was, because I was first learning of the prices for multiple items at check out, I had to decide in a flash if I wanted to keep them not, as if i were on a crappy game show. A customer should not be put in that position.
Then my app showed that the GF wrap should be for x$. my husband's phone showed a different price for the same item-it turns out he had his store set as Brooklyn but when he later changed it back to the glen oaks store, it still showed a different price than my phone did even though we're both signed in as me to the same location. The cashier said something about how the prices online or like a base price and may not be accurate. I know the FTC has a truth in advertising law and NYC has pricing laws (https://www.nyc.gov/assets/dca/downloads/pdf/about/PricingLaws.pdf). I just stared her thinking, I am going to report this store and what you're telling me is illegal.
Even if you look at their app there's asterisks everywhere- it turns out they're saying that prices might not be as they appear - if you can't stand by your prices, then don't post them. It's not a customer's job to play Sherlock Holmes and figure out what a price really is.
I don't ask them to do my job. They are a grocery store - one of their job is to be transparent about prices-the onus should not be on the customer. i hope they fix it. i like their food...
Read moreThis place is horrible they mostly have only 1 cashier working the lines are super long cause of that the self check out is also mostly long and doesnât really work properly. I saw many staff around the store but no one working the cash register there was one time there was no one there so I had to go somewhere else. I see ripped up stuff opened and broken like toys, advent calendarâs etc . They also canât even charge people correctly I bought some food and was charged extra because I didnât have a phone number with them the prices r deceiving u need to sign up to get the cheap prices they also charged me less once or twice not complaining about that part but like they need to fix it. The staff pmo so much like maybe if they actually r able to pay their staff maybe it wouldnât be a disaster everyday. I hear that alarm for when people steal or smth go off every second and someone needing a manager cause the staff canât do anything for some reason i think there is more managers than staff atp like maybe they should be working the cash registers instead of roaming around. The cash registers are also mostly broken like another time I was at customer help thing and he called a manager over to tap a button then he didnât even do what I asked I said i wanted a refund because they charged me extra then he told me itâs the right price like idgaf I wanted a damn refundđ (srry if I repeated stuff by...
Read moreIm gonna give it 3 stars and I think that's overly fair. The minimal staff is apathetic on a good day and down right rude as a norm. The store is right at the cusp of filthy. That's most noticeable when the shelfs are empty, and some sections in particular always are. For example, chicken. I think I was able to find chicken breasts only once when I went in. I mean, with the absolute lack of staff I guess that's to be expected. There will be nobody to order or stock shelves. Nobody to gather up the carts outside ever. No one to work the self checkout. As a general rule, if I walk in and see the self checkout closed, I just walk out. The lost souls working the registers have redefined slow. I only now go in in a pinch as it's the closest supermarket to me. However, I would never do my weekly shopping there. Finally, I leave a story... I was doing self checkout and had a case of 12 Mason jars that were on sale. Big old stack of them on an end cap. Anyway, I scan them and I had my first interaction ever with an employee. He accused me of stealing by just ringing up one of the jars. Its a pack of 12, pal.
Edit: dropped a star. I went in again and now the meat shelves are nearly empty and the shelves themselves are absolutely disgusting. I was seriously tempted to embarrass the management and just go grab a cleaning spray and paper towels from the shelf and clean...
