DO NOT COME HERE. This place is absolutely disgusting. Found a COCKROACH in my jerky only after having eaten basically the entire pack that I bought. Paid over 30 dollars for only a pound of jerky. Bought half spicy and half regular pork jerky, except they both tasted the same and both were an extreme let down. The jerky was wet and moist and not dry enough as it should be. So not only was the jerky subpar for the insane pricing, I’m heaving from the ROACH I found. If I could give 0 stars I would give 0 stars. Never coming here again. DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DISGUSTED BY THE LACK HYGIENE IN THIS PLACE.
EDIT: As someone who doesn't ever review restaurants, I took time out of my day to let others know of the hygiene of this place. In reply to the restaurants reply, I am absolutely appalled by the accusations that this did not actually happen. If you had replied about roughly 2 months earlier, we would've brought in the offending piece of jerky with a roach on it right back to you, send it off for lab testing if you must, but unfortunately you have decided to take your time in replying (4 WHOLE MONTHS), long enough to ensure it was too moldy to test or identify. I'm afraid that you can clearly see in the pictures that the ROACH is charred and STUCK to the jerky. We were handed this jerky in a bag with the other pieces of jerky, which we did end up eating. As much as we wish this didn't happen either, it did. My family and I were in great distress after the knowledge that we could've consumed something so disgusting. You ruined our day and appetite. You will never get our patronage again. I hope others read this and can see how...
Read moreOur next stop after Ping's on our way back from Chinatown, we dropped in and picked up some of their sweet pork, spicy pork, and spicy beef jerkies. Not having tried Malaysian style jerky before, I wasn't aware it was prepared differently, and was surprised about the lower price tag relative to Ping's, especially for the seemingly larger portions.
But, upon trying them, I immediately noticed a difference: the jerkies here were significantly softer than the ones at Ping's, and almost of the texture of, say, a thick fruit roll-up. Taste wise, they were different too, albeit hard to describe: a bit... smokier, perhaps, with more subtle flavors than those of Ping's.
Really, it comes down to a matter of taste and texture preference. Of the two, I liked the jerky at Ping's a bit more than the jerky here, but would rate them the same: three stars if you live here, two if you don't.
Accessibility Info
Venue - Again, contrary to the business details, this place is accessible, but also difficult. The ramp to get in is steep enough that, with a closed door that you'd need to also open, it may be near impossible to get in. And even if you do, the space inside is narrow, so, like Ping's you're better off bringing a friend or trying to wave down someone inside.
Bathroom - Didn't go in, so I didn't pay close attention, but I don't believe...
Read moreMalaysia Beef Jerky Inc. is one of those places you walk past one day and just notice out of the corner of your eye and keep walking. Then after a few more steps, once your brain has had a chance to process what your eyes have told it you have to stop, turn around and push open the door. Inside you will find glass cabinets with stacks of dried meats and a whiteboard with the pricing of each. They are sold by the quarter pound or multiples of that and I believe they will vacuum pack large orders and ship it worldwide. $4 will buy you a greaseproof bag of meat strips which you can see being dried over a grill in the window, being turned regularly by a bored looking employee to avoid unwanted charring. If you opt for the regular jerky you will get slabs that are thicker and juicier than jerky as you know it - the meat is greasy and slightly sweet and if you opt for the spicy version, there is a delicate heat in there too. The sliced variety is thinner and drier and more like American style jerky. As snacks go, a slice of Malaysian jerky is great and surprisingly filling and at about a dollar a slice, pretty good value for money - better than a candy bar...
