Manny Cantor Center — Local services in New York

The place is reasonable clean people there are nice but theres just not much equipments there. Most of their machine are kinda old and a bit worn down. Not much classes and most of times classes would get canceled. The hours are shortest out of all the gyms in the area. Monday-Thrusday 7am-8pm, Friday’s ends at 7, and weekends hours are even worse it opens at 9am and closes at 3pm. Before Covid the gym was never like this. There used to much more equipment and classes but right now this place has just become a joke. And from speaking to one of the managers (Michelle)there, the gym will not be getting any new equipments or willing to extend their hours until September and that’s just a maybe and from what I hear their hours will only be extended a half hour more. This used to be a pretty good gym to go to but not anymore. For what you paid ($70 per month) you’re better off going somewhere else around the area with better hours newer equipments and much more classes. I speak to a lot of the members there and they all complain about the same issues. Summer is right around the corner and still, knowing this management is still not willing to work in the best interests of their members. Until they fix these issues this place is absolutely not worth it at all. I’m very disappointed. I have been living in this community all my life and they fixed up this building and renamed it. They don't like to incorporate the community. I had a member once with my nieces daycare and later in the years they started this sign up for your family but everyone pays. I had to give up my personal information to a social worker in order to receive this opportunity. They did not say there was any ending, oh yeah the once lost my application and I had to wait until someone got to me. When I ended in and then didn't want my daughter to join even after it was Sai "family ". The cut me off in 2024 after I inquired about payments just to find out they stopped payments because the program ended and other people need to be given a chance. If it's a program what's the difference, they still getting paid and everyone doesn't come at the same time. The owner is very voicetress and shuts your conversation down. This is a review of only the Senior Center and in particular, the Self-Defense class. If you are a senior, go. Andre and his assistant Dee, are wonderful. Andre is patient, careful, and genuinely cares about helping seniors avoid and get out of dangerous situations. His props are pretty fun, too. Andre is a good instructor, who breaks things down and repeats and repeats until you get it. He knows his business and wants to make sure you know it too. And what he teaches is practical. He's teaching you things a senior can do, not expecting you to throw a 300 lb man to the ground. The spicier Dee, is also a good instructor, albeit a bit tougher than Andre.
