I stayed at the Hotel Richland from the 10th till the 13th, for such a short stay where I barely used the room every visit seemed like an event. The hotel is placed in the middle of an area being gentrified and all of the components that come therein were visible just outside of the hotel, from homeless to drug addicted passerby’s screaming nonsensical verbiage as they wandered just outside the hotels doors. The front desk staff was ran by a gentleman who struck me as a partial owner due to his disinterest in his job and his leisure attitude towards all guests. He would request to view your hotel keycard if you were entering the building after a certain hour, even if he just saw you walk out several seconds prior, the claim was security but the vibe was annoyance. We were shushed several times when entering the lobby, even though we weren’t conversing, eventually leading to us asking the question “Are people sleeping in the lobby?” Low and behold there were several rooms stationed on the lobby floor that were all packed just as tight as the room we were situated in upstairs (I had a family member come by for all of several minutes and it lead to this embarrassing episode). As though I weren’t already questioning my decision to stay at this tear down, at the start of my stay I checked in 9hrs after my appointed time, I honestly had other places to stay and just wanted the comfort of a retreat when I wanted privacy or a bathroom. The hotel manager (the keycard guy) informed me that when I was checking out due to my late check in they could potentially accommodate me with several hours before departing since I virtually did not use my first day of staying. It wasn’t a requirement but I did need the information as my flight home was only an hour or two after check out. After informing me that as long as the hotel was not at capacity I would be accommodated as I had already paid that duration. Of course the day of check out (I followed instructions and came down three hours before check out) I was told there was no notation on my account regarding the matter. I had the staff call the individual that made the blank promises, who then suggested that because the hotel staff would not be on hand that day to clean the room I would have to check out before my flight, the opposite of what we discussed days prior. Of course that didn’t settle well with me so he asked that I pay a late check out fee to settle the matter. After a brief moment of internal disbelief that the desk would tell an upright lie to get me to stay knowing it would produce a situation where I would need a new hotel for two hours (which for the sake of not giving this gentleman the satisfaction I definitely purchased) before departing for the airport. Were it not told to me completely differently the first day and had my stay not been riddled with horrible experiences I would not have taken the time to write this review, but for the sake of others knowing, spare yourselves, stay anywhere else, Airbnb, a more reputable location, anything. These people don’t deserve the business of anyone with an inch of...
Read moreThe hotel is renovated to be modern. It's good to acknowledge that the rooms are indeed very small as is the hotel itself. There are no cupboards to put clothing and the writing table is very small. The bed takes almost all the space in the room.
You can get a room with an amazing view towards the Manhattan bridge or over Lower Eastside. We didn't get that.
Also the sound insulation is abysmal so at least on the 5th floor the noise from the street will sound to the room. Also you will hear everything from the other side of the room door.
Our biggest issue with the stay was that especially during the first few days, it seemed like heating was on full all the time no matter how we tried to adjust it from the panel. We actually woke up several times during the night because it got so hot and we had to open the window. Luckily I think the hotel was able to solve it to some degree after we mentioned about it so it was better during the latter part of the stay.
But with all this said, I still think this is a good place to stay! The room is very basic, but it's clean, we got new towels every day, WiFi worked fine, we had hot water in the shower and the front of desk was super friendly. The location is also perfect with two close by subway stations and of course everything that Chinatown and Lower Eastside has to offer! We...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Richland in the vibrant Lower East Side of New York City for a two-week period while I searched for long-term housing. I must say that my experience was nothing short of excellent. Hafeez, the assistant manager, went above and beyond to accommodate all my needs and ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
One of the standout features of this hotel was the exceptional cleanliness. The housekeeping staff paid meticulous attention to detail and ensured that my room was spotless every single day. It was truly refreshing to come back to a clean and well-maintained space after a long day of exploring the city.
Another aspect that impressed me was the hotel's location in a safe area. As a solo traveler, safety was a top priority for me, and Hotel Richland provided me with peace of mind. The neighborhood felt secure, and I never encountered any concerns during my entire stay.
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Hotel Richland to anyone looking for accommodation in New York City. The attentive and accommodating staff, coupled with the exceptional cleanliness and safe surroundings, make it an ideal choice for both short and extended stays. Whether you're a tourist or a traveler in search of more permanent housing like myself, this hotel is a...
