Amber was my amazing hair stylist for the 2.5 years I lived in NYC. She has amazing artistry, taking my abstract ideas (hair that can last for 6 months, bangs that can be pulled back in surgery, lady Gaga inspired, fall themed etc.) and making beautiful products. On top of her amazing hair skills and conversational skills, Amber also ensures you have the healthiest hair routine possible. I will miss having her to depend on!

I rarely write bad review when I am unhappy with a service, as long as attempts to make amends are made. However, I chose to write this due to Carlos' complete and total lack of compassion or willingness to apologize for how devastated I am. First off, it is clear that Carlos is good at cutting curly hair, but he is TERRIBLE at listening to or taking feedback from his customers. If you don't know what you want, or you don't already know how to deal with your curls Carlos might be the guy for you. But if you have something specific in mind I suggest going to someone who will care to make sure you are happy (and spend more than ten seconds looking at the pictures you bring). I specifically asked him to look at previous pictures of my hair, and examples of what I wanted, so that I could get back to the shape I had earlier before an unfortunate haircut in January (was totally doable, and very simple). Rather than taking the time to look, he glanced at the picture and told me to 'move on from my old hair' and work with what we have, and dismissd the pictures of the '90210' girl (his words, not mine) that I was showing him as an example of SHAPE not STYLE. He seems more interested in telling you what you're doing "wrong" and teaching you how to style your hair the "right" way, than actually delivering the shape you ask for. He styled me with clips, which i would never do, as i really dislike that look and left me under the dryer. When I left i couldn't see the shape due to the massive amounts of gel and the weird height at the roots. I came back a couple hours later after it "settled" and it was clear that I did not get what I asked for.

I asked for a nice, subtle angle and I ended up with a SHORT square top and a rattail hanging in the back, sadly all that is left of my length. I look like I have puffy poodle ears with a little scraggly tail in the back. Once hair is cut there's no going back, but a simple "I'm sorry" is more than sufficient to make amends when a customer is in tears, there's absolutely no need for rudeness or egoism. He offered to cut more to achieve the shape I asked for, which is the last thing in the world I need to grow my hair out. He then became angry (took a moment to take deep breaths to calm himself) as I fought back tears of anger and humiliation. I wish I was not so naive to believe that paying 140 dollars for a haircut would mean that my stylist would care more about my feelings than his ego, in fact it was the opposite. Really sad and disappointed, mostly about the rude reaction to my tears. I'm sure once I get over it I'll be more upset about the haircut that will be with me for a good long while.

For reference: I have been a curly girl since 2011, have gotten some great curly haircuts (and some really bad ones) so I'm definitely not a newbie to the dry cut game. Carlos knows how to cut curly hair, but that's not of much use if you end up with a mullet of...

I decided to try Mario Diab Salon after having had two bad and overly-priced cuts at Deva (I don't need to spend $200 plus tax and tip for a generic cut and product application), and WOW! Carlos Flores gave me the best curly cut I've ever had. He paid attention to my curls and my look, explained the cut he thought was best for me, and went through step-by-step the best hair-care routine for my hair. I've never been more confident in a stylist. And not only that, the salon as a whole was just perfect. Genuine, unpretentious, and full of effortlessly stylish people. I have finally found the salon and stylist that I have been...

I feel terrible about posting this review. I saw Carlos years ago at Devachan and always felt like a million dollars when I left. After losing touch with him after he left Deva many years ago-I was thrilled to finally find him after some disastrous haircuts experience last fall. He was perfectly fine but didn't seem at all interested in cutting my curly hair. My hair is grey now and I felt like he thought I was past my expiration date and not hip and going through the motions. He gave my hair a shape but not a style. It was a waste of my time. I wish him the very best-but I guess the...
