Martial Vivot Men's Hair Salon — Local services in New York

I visited Martial Vivot Downtown for the first time this past weekend. I read great reviews about the salon, and I was in need of a good haircut. I booked with Emmanuel. Upon arrival at the salon, the woman at the front desk greeted me with a great warmth and energy. She took me to Emmanuel's station, where I met my hair stylist. Emmanuel was fantastic! So kind, friendly, an attentive listener. He asked questions about what I was looking for in my hair, to help understand my vision for my hair. He asked great questions, and confirmed understanding of what I was looking for. Emmanuel cut my hair with great attention to detail. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him, our conversation, and I immediately felt at ease, knowing I was in good hands. I love the outcome of my haircut. My experience with Emmanuel and the woman at the front desk was fantastic! Aside from the emotions of the experience, the salon is gorgeous! Used to go here for two years, Chris was great. However, unfortunately the front desk staff has been useless and disingenuous, to the point of frustration.

Today, pretty much the only time, I was running a bit behind. I called that I would run behind, and got a confirmation on the phone that it would be ok. I showed up earlier than I had said, and was then told there was no more time for my trim, which in the past took less then 30min, we had more than 40min, yet I was waved off.

At the same time I asked to speak with Chris who was in the back, since he'd be actually doing the work, to see if he felt there was time, but he was blocked off by front desk staff, two women, who did not even let him know.

Needless to say, from here on, will be...

I had a hair cut July 15, and was very disappointed. Martial was very unreasonable. He made me really feel low. I asked him before he started to please try to leave the hair at the length it is and just clean it up. He was very careless and I left with basically a $500 buzz cut and traumatized from his behavior.

This is a big deal to me as I am really insecure about my hair. This was worse than the fact he was extremely rude saying “it is only hair and it will grow back eventually.”

I was very disappointed and sad and he said to me “ calm down man, nobody died in the chair.” I knew the French were a little arrogant but this was totally uncalled for. In short I was very uncomfortable and not would never go back here as he is...
