Okay so I have been going for a couple weeks, so far not bad...but that also doesn't mean it's great either... i have a super biased opinion since in SoCal we have really affordable great gym options. Here in NY if you don't pay a decent amount that is roughly $69-$140/ month (which anywhere in California is preposterous) then your probably going to get a very mediocre gym. Which kind of makes sense here because I am under the impression that not a lot of people in Manhattan are going to the gym or at leased one that isn't attached to their building. Which makes this gym nice sense it doesn't get super packed. I have been able to get through my workout relatively quickly (mostly). Now for the meat and potatoes Cleanliness: 7/10 the gym is kept, but doesn't feel clean Equipment: 10/10 this gym has great equipment and lots of this you will not find in a typical in most gyms; i.e. Kabuki Strengths Hex Bar. For most people not necessary but cool if your a gym nerd Vibe: 6/10 they have a bunch of pictures of very muscular body builders, which I think is mostly in poor taste. I personally don't find it motivational, more so Gate keepy. Oh the lighting is very night clubby and reminds me of a strip club. Not for me. Crossfitters: Yeah there here, and yes they make everyone else know they are there. Doing their usual shenanigans (clean and jerk...etc.) Squat racks: they have about 4 and one of those garage gym ones you set up anywhere. Pretty decent 8/10 Deadlift area: 8/10 they have a lof of real estate for DL's but probably not enough weights for 1 person maxing and 2 other people working out and lift relatively heavy. Comfortably probably around 4 ppl can deadlift at the same time. Ideally 3 though Quality of equipment: 7.5/10 your not getting prestine things here, most of the equipment is old (still decent) but probably not as nice as the stuff you'll see at a typical gym, however they have a lot of equipment so that's a plus. But again it's not going to be in tip top shape. They have "Arnold's Original Calf Machine" (cool but) needless to say the ones they make in the modern day are substantial better. 400lbs feels like 300 lbs... probably is due to wear and tear. Anyways thanks for reading and I hope this helps on your NYC...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis gym is terrible on every level. First and foremost it smells the ventilation is terrible, but I guess that goes without saying seeing that itās in a basement. The only amenity they offer is tanning which does nothing for the black or ethnic client. The locker rooms are small at peak hours (3-7) youāre literally changing on top of people. I signed up for a three month membership and not even completely into two months I was hounded to rejoin by pretentious friendless and passive aggressiveness which clearly means there pressed for cash. If your in manhatten I would suggest trying crunch if your concerned about similar amenities and price even though mid city is more expensive. If money is not an issue than your options are countless in the midtown area. My review put NYSC outta business in forest hills letās see if we can get them removed for a better option.
LOL you never threw me out the gym you were mad cause you wanted me to renew and I hung up on you after repeatedly begging to give me a discount to stay so stop it. You saw my review and now you wanna give me my money back after me completing two months of a pre paid three month member ship. Your gym just isnāt worth the money even though responding to my review clearly is. And as far as you throwing me out your clientele is strange who asks another member what there using a weight bench for when clearly it could be used for anything. Nice try again I checked your member for sounding ridiculous and for the owner whoās probably responding for talking pure garbage. The same man wanting to compliment my body in the menās bathroom lol. This is a strange and bizarre place and highly immature as per the owners response. Iām sure your the longest running gym blah blah blah like you got new equipment (a back row and a weirdly positioned shoulder press and a curl machine lol) and thatās fine as long as I receive my refund steroids isnāt my thing šµāš«š« but I mean look at how the lady in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThey have a Nautilus pullover machine. The legit, old-school chain driven one; Dorian Yates Blood & Guts style. The place could literally be on fire and Iād still rate it 5 stars from that alone. Owner or whoever in charge of the equipment knows whatās up.
Jokes aside, place is kept clean and they have a nice selection of bodybuilding-oriented equipment. I highly recommend trying the pullover machine, plate loaded chest fly and the panotta low row if youāve never used them. The stretch and squeeze is unlike any other exercise. The vibe is very hardcore yet friendly. And unlike many āhardcore bodybuildingā gyms the bathrooms donāt stink like roider piss (if you know you know. If you take āvitaminsā please get your liver enzymes checked cuz we can smell it).
Goes without saying that they also have squat racks benches a dumb bell rack etc; the basics. Cable station with rowing and pull down area and lots of fun attachments. There is also a stretching area. Went at 5pm on a Sunday and was not too crowded either.
This spot is in the middle of Times Square basically though, so day pass is like 30 bucks and Iām assuming everything else in there is priced accordingly as well but I didnāt try the shakes or buy any of the protein bars so i wouldnāt know. Front desk guy was super helpful with everything and kind.
If youāre a fan of Arthur Jonesās HIT style training, this is the place to go based on the machines they have available. They got lots of gadgets and gizmos in there where you can just lock your body in and take a muscle group to absolute failure and beyond.
My only nitpick is I wish they had a high row machine. They have a hammer strength chest supported row and a panotta low row but I feel like a plate loaded high row would make this gym...
