Never have I ever had a hair salon do me as dirty as Mure Salon NYC. In fact, a year after the cut (12/27/22), I am still recovering from the absolute botchery this salon performed on my hair. I've received two haircuts since this cut, and I've used the Mure 'after' image as instruction for what NOT to do with my hair. Client beware.
I entered the salon with very thick, wavy hair, as shown in the 'before' image. I asked for a few inches off (bob), and some light layering. I know what I like and what works for me; every time I go to a salon, I show the same reference images and ask for the same thing. No stylist has ever interpreted this request as "chop off 80% of her hair" until Mure.
This stylist absolutely decimated my thickness and volume, "styled" it by flat ironing pin-straight with no heat protectant (eek!), and charged me triple digits; however, the most egregious thing she did was argue with me when I told her I was dissatisfied with the cut. It was too late for remediation as she'd already sheared off most of my volume, but the defensiveness, argumentation, and lack of empathy left a really bad taste in my mouth.
I cried immediately after leaving the salon. I hoped it would look better once styled or dried naturally, but nope! It just looked wrong. I hid behind headbands for months, because I had no idea how to come to terms with the volume loss. I've had incredibly thick, voluminous hair my entire life, and seeing my hair without that volume felt like seeing a different version of myself.
Despite this negative experience, I went back-and-forth on writing this review for an entire year. Although this haircut really messed with my self esteem, I am not one to write reviews, especially bad ones. I ultimately decided to sit down and write this because, one year later, I still do not have anywhere near the volume I did prior to this cut.
At the end of the day, I am writing this review because I miss my hair, and I would hate to see other unsuspecting thick-haired clients suffer the same fate because they thought they could trust this salon.
Thank you for coming to...

Always thankful to come back to Mure for my color! Benjamin is a forever delight with a fantastic team. I always feel welcome and relaxed and my appointment is timely and smooth. It’s officially coming up on 7 years since I’ve been coming here. I couldn’t imagine going elsewhere for my color - BEST COLORIST, BEST SALON IN NYC. Even with the uncertainty of the economy, this is one luxury I won’t be giving up!
It's officially been six years since I've been going to Mure - the level of service, quality of hair care and overall staff have always been excellent. It's always been a 5 star review for me, but my most recent visit left me with a slightly sour taste in regards to an unexpected price increase.
I've been coming to Mure since 2018 and there was a price increase at some point over the years, which seemed reasonable at the time, and I was informed of it.
This recent visit blind-sided me a bit. I had made the appointment back in January for mid-April. I wasn't informed of a price increase when I booked it in January. I wasn't informed of a price increase when I was called for an appointment confirmation two days before. The first I heard of a (significant) price increase for the same service I've been getting since 2018 was when I was sitting in the chair for my appt. and my colorist/stylist casually told me that the service I've always been getting would now cost me $60 more. Personally, that seemed like quite a jump. The length of my hair nor the services I get have changed at all.
I was curious if anyone else found this price jump startling, especially because when you look at the website, the prices still state that I should only be charged my original amount of $340. If the prices really did jump so much, I think the website needs to be updated too. I was told that the prices will again increase in September. I love Mure Salon, but I am not sure I can...
Read moreLoved my hair although I asked for lighter hair. However the stylist Marta was able to lift off my red hair and made me honey beige brunette which I loved. The reason for 1 star is because at the time of collecting payment, I was to tip through zelle as I had no cash to tip the hairdressers (certainly my mistake, not an excuse but I just moved to NY and learnt to always have cash on). As I zelled the owner Benjamin for the 2 hairdressers that worked on my hair, he was to forward the payment to them. He came to me and shamed me in front of everyone at the salon asking how much I tipped and if the amount he saw on his phone was actually the amount. I told him yes that’s the amount and they are to be equally distributed between the girls. He proceeded to bash me and say well we normally take 18-20% of the total charge of the services as tip per hairdresser. Mind you I paid $700 for a brunette balayage. Was I expected to pay $140 each hairdresser? I am not from Upper east side so for a college student, that is a bit obnoxious. But again that is just me. Maybe I shouldn’t have picked this salon for the services. I was also ready to tip more however since when is it exceptable to shame your customers for tipping especially after they just spend $700 at your salon. The reason why I didn’t tip more than $50 each was because I was to attend an event right after my hair appointment however my makeup was ruined as they accidentally smudges my face with marks of black hair dye. I know they obviously didn’t do it intentionally however it happened multiple times and after the appointment I had hair my eyebrow off and bare spots on my face after an attempt to clean off the dye was made which I had to go back to remove myself. Overall, I really wanted to make this my new go-to salon but the way they treated me in the end was not okay. Nice try by guilt tripping me to make me retip but I’m...
