[TL:DR] Trust the process = trust jimmy. He CUTS and COLORS hair really well. Super talented and overall a good person.
Review on haircuts: (Skip to next part for review on hair coloring) Jimmy has been cutting my hair for several years now and I only trust him bc he is truly knowledgable and understands hair in general as well as latest trends and technique. There are many hair âstylistâ out there who think all you need to know is how to use a pair of scissors, hence why so many ppl have botched hair cuts. He is not someone who cuts 6 inches off when you only asked for a trim. Whenever I show Jimmy a reference photo, he immediately knows what to do to achieve it and guides me thru the process. He will give his recs and explain why something works or doesnât work (i.e. suit my styles, compliments my face shape, works for my hair texture, maintenance level, etc). My favorite aspect of his skills is that my hair grows into the cuts so nicely. He cuts hair in a way that even after a few weeks/month, the style is still there and the hair flows so gracefully.
Review on hair coloring: Since going to him for years, Iâve watched him work on many ppls hair and the colors he achieved are amazing. I finally decided to get my hair colored after 10 years of not dying my hair. He worked patiently with me thru the consultation to discuss my color goals. During the process, even as he took on other customers, he still frequently checked in with me and paid close attn as the color progressed. You can tell he does this thru intuition and that takes skills and shows passion - which he certainly has for his art. He takes pride in and accountability for his work, and does it in a humble and grateful manner.
Tips: The place is a no frills salon, no glitz or glam. This is part of his humble beginnings to owning his own salon one day so donât judge a book by its cover. Itâs small and narrow, crammed when itâs busy. They take walk ins, but be mindful that youâll have to wait as they juggle everything. If youâre going in for coloring, go in prepared by eating beforehand and bring something to drink. If you need a break from sitting for hours, simply ask. They can get busy, and itâs not that theyâll forget about you, but they are focused on providing service to their other patrons (as they should!).
Iâm really happy with my hair and excited to see how it progresses. Iâll continue to support Jimmy and his aspirations bc heâs truly deserving of it. Heâs patient, never rushes a job, super talented, and overall a...
Read moreMy hair was in rough shape as I had dyed it more than 6 months ago. My roots were grown out and the color was brassy. I showed the stylists some inspiration pictures and they got right to work with almost everyone having worked on my hair at least once. I have a lot of hair so already I admired their dedication. Everyone there was kind and I made conversation with them and learned a lot about how to take care of my hair, etc. It was a three hour process for a single color as well as a hair cut and style but they never rushed any step even when it was so chaotic as it was a Saturday. I adored the hair color as it matched my reference photos. What truly impressed me was the haircut. Jerry cut my hair and I showed him pictures of a butterfly cut but honestly I think he outdid the references. The layers he was able to create were incredible, they look flawless and seamless. I think one of the biggest hesitations about layered hair cuts is how they look unstyled but unstyled it still had so much shape. When the ends are curled, the layers are emphasized even more. He also cut my bangs well in a way that suited me. All in all, this was my first but not my last time at this salon. Everyone there is kind and they listen and deliver on your needs. I would recommend calling ahead to book an appointment especially on the weekends and giving them an idea of the services you would like. For my single color (I have a lot of hair and the process took two and a half hours) it was 100 and my wash, cut, and style was 20. It was affordable all things considered, make sure to tip! They accept cash and zelle to my knowledge. I could not recommend this...
Read moreDo not be intimidated by the small storefront - I had a wonderful and enjoyable time at New City One Salon! I called ahead of time to make an appointment. I went there with an open mind, just wanting to improve my hair texture (I have dry, coarse & frizzy hair).
Dan ćĺ¸ĺ examined my hair and talked through a few different treatment options - including hot oil, keratin... we ended up choosing ć°´ç repair treatment because it was the least harmful to my hair. It involved putting a 3-step process of products on my hair and it didn't require heat to seal in the nutrition. The brand is Milbon - I did some research after I left and found out that it is high quality brand from Japan and does not have any silicone or phosphates (huge plus in my mind).
He also helped chop off my hair ends and ended the haircut with a blow dry and adjustments. My hair ended up feeling silky and healthy, and no longer frizzy! The pricing was very fair and I am glad that my money is going to a hard-working small salon rather than a bougie chain. Bring cash!
The best part was talking to Dan. I found out that we are from the same city and we bonded over our experiences. Made me feel nostalgic. Loved hearing his stories as a working-class immigrant (because, same).
