Long story short, girl at the front desk is not so welcoming. Sheās blonde with a bad short Bob and the nice laminated brows. And this was my first time at this club and immediately I noticed her energy and attitude was not the best. But as someone who also works in hospitality it didnāt bother me, Iām just here to do what I need to do and I get that. The issue was when the gym was closing.
She had came into the small yoga room where me and my friend were and she initially just stood there so I wasnāt sure if she was just there to check on something or not. But after a second she goes āgirls Iām closing the gymā very straightforwardly as if we were ignoring her presence purposely. We told her āoh sorryā and immediately got our stuff together to leave.
My friend went to use the bathroom before leaving and at this time other members were still leaving the gym from the upper floors. As Iām getting dressed (friend is still in the bathroom ) she comes back around and yells from a cross the gym āGIRLS THE GYM IS CLOSEDā now Iām frustrated because weāve been respectful and I understand we lost track of time, Iām used to my usual gym being opened wayyy longer. I yell out to my friend to letās go. And as weāre leaving she says in a passive aggressive tone āgirls we have to leave the gym on timeā reminder; this is our first time here, maybe we shouldāve kept track of the time but we were not soliciting way past the time. As there was people leaving as well.
ā
And because of all this I managed to leave my phone, from rushing to get ready. We had to walk back and I got my phone back. I did not say thank you as we were leaving because of my frustration with her. And then she goes āyouāre welcomeā which was kinda funny.
I didnāt want to mention at the beginning of the review but we were both black girls probably the only black girls that day so take that with a grain of salt if youāre a POC trying to start a new membership here.
The location is great and they have a lot of space and machines and a cozy yoga area. I mean for the price ppl pay monthly it makes sense. We were also given a towel when we entered which was nice. Just not happy with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was charged in April (like thousands of others) after they were closed due to COVID. There was no one at this location or corporate to answer questions, and I was informed by the website and email that my account would be put on hold until they reopened, and there was nothing I could do to get my money back or cancel my membership until then.
Well, guess what. They've reopened. I didn't get an e-mail or phone call letting me know. Instead, I got a charge on my credit card for September dues.
Now I'm trying to get in touch with them to 1) get a refund and 2) cancel my membership. I was told by the woman answering the phone that they aren't taking phone calls because they're overloaded, and that I'd have to send an e-mail or visit in person, but that an e-mail will take a lot longer. The reason I'm not using the gym is because I don't think it's safe doing so yet, and I also don't live within 50 miles of it any more. So no, I'm not going to visit in person.
The headquarters number is a prerecorded message saying they're not taking phone calls and to contact your local club with issues. So yeah. Really bucking the trend of gyms being an absolute nightmare to deal with. Guess I'll call my bank.
Look, all I want is my money back and to not feel like they're doing everything they can to avoid their members. I would appreciate a prompt response. I get that businesses haven't had it easy through all this either etc etc., but this is bananas.
In case anyone is interested, the law firm that filed a class action suit against them for this nonsense back in April is Wigdor Law. They're on 5th.
UPDATE: 10/6
I emailed the address below: heretohelp on Sep 26. I was told the emailed was ccād to someone who would help me, and I havenāt heard anything since despite sending two more emails. NYSC has since charged me...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI should have read the review posted before (about up charges because THEY CAN). Unfortunately, like most people, you look at these review when you run into a problem - only to realize that i am not the first one complaining about this.
So - here is my story. I have have nysc membership for a while, that lets me use nysc clubs in NY and NJ. I used to use this location before when i used to live close by. Last month, my office location was moved closer to this location again. I end up going to this location 4 times in march. (only thing i noticed was that some cleanup had been done to the gym - new lights wall tiles etc)
Come end of march i see a $80 charge on top of my monthly membership charges. When i called them, they initially said it was the annual charge then when i questioned that they said that they will have the manager call me back. After over a week of waiting for a call back, i went to the location to ask about this - i was told that this is an 'elite' location and they charge for that. They pointed me at some SMALL signs on the wall that do say so - but in this day and age i don''t see any of the clients actually reading that. On top of that, when i asked why i wasnt informed that this gym is not a part of my membership on ANY of my visits here, they were like you should have read the signs. The manager seemed to agree with my thought process but told me to go take it up with my credit card company. (not the most pleasant person to deal with) Overall experience was not great on top of this shady business practice (imo) where they clean up one of their gym's and now without giving the clients a heads up - charges them on their...
