I've been a sporadic guest of Hotel 31 (and their other location, Hotel 17; however, I refer to 31 for my review) for the past year or more. You can't really beat the price for the excellent location, amenities, and friendly service. Shared bathrooms and private bathrooms, you really can't complain. No outside noise of cars and traffic, no dirty beds (always clean rooms), and, believe me when I say this--I have no idea who is responsible--, the shared bathrooms are 99% all the time clean! Seriously, that's somewhat of a pleasantry, esp. being that other shared bathrooms from other hotels I've occupied I can't say the same. And who's the guy at the front desk? I forget his name. There's several who work up front (all friendly), but this one guy... he's working tonight (Dec. 8th, 6:02pm)--I just talked to him a few minutes ago while checking in--, and he's always smiling. Whoever he is (his name), he's actually remembered my first and last name. Seriously! Sure, it took a few stays (2 or 3), but after that, he somehow remembered who I was. Not only is this impressive of itself, but I can barely remember to take my medication in the morning, let alone eat breakfast. All joking aside (which I fail at, miserably), Hotel 31 is beyond any budget hotel. Fully furnished, smelling without odors, and always looking and feeling clean, you'll discover that to look elsewhere for a better price:value ratio is pointless. Moreover and in closing this soon-to-be-lengthy-review-if-I-don't-end-it-within-the-next-moment, the only downside is there's no breakfast. But, really, I almost always pass on hotel breakfasts; they don't ever taste very good (even the higher-end hotels) and for a continental breakfast, there's usually nothing continental about it, where hotels generally offer stale bagels, concentrated orange juice (no nutritional value), and a bowl of cereal with 2% or whole milk. Oh, boy! A whole... $2 value. Thus, I really don't care for any free breakfasts and usually walk myself to a local diner or...
Read moreAmazing Hotel in the Heart of Manhattan, I Highly Recommend It! I stayed here for 4 months while studying at Pace University on a student visa, having come all the way from Germany, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Honestly, I expected it to be just okay, but it exceeded my expectations, it was great.
The staff are some of the friendliest people you’ll meet in Manhattan. They’re also very professional and stick to their word. The front desk team is always welcoming, ready to help, and available 24/7. You feel genuinely safe here thanks to the constant security presence.
Cleanliness is my top priority, and this place delivered. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well-maintained by a thoughtful and hardworking housekeeping team. If I had to sum up the rooms in two words, I’d say: ''cozy and clean''.
Over the course of 4 months, a lot can happen, but everything about this accommodation was positive. The location is very central, almost right between the Chrysler Building, the Empire State Building (Macy’s is at walkable distance, they all are). The subway station is right next door, and there are plenty of cozy cafés around. The hotel also offers Wi-Fi and many other amenities.
Next time I’m in NYC, I really hope they have a spot available, because this is absolutely my...
