I think it's crazy that there's basically no signs or information to know where this is on Staten Island, but this is a very quick and easy way to get into the city. It only takes about 35 minutes to get to W 39th Street Pier 79. The dock is on the street after the Empire Outlets, there's a sign for parking behind the Ferry Hawks baseball field. These boats are new and clean. They are small though, they can fit about 100 people, maybe more; and you definitely feel the water, but that kind of makes it fun. Each ride is the price of a regular MTA fare, but it has its own ticketing system. The easiest way to get a ticket and see the schedule is the NYC Ferry app, otherwise you need to use the kiosks. The only other thing is that you need to stay inside the whole time until they tell you to come out to leave the boat. No standing outside like the regular SI Ferry. Plus there is food and drink for purchase if that's your thing. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs to get to Battery Park Place or W 39th or just needs a faster route to get to the city versus the regular ferry. I really hope they add connectivity to the Bay Ridge Brooklyn line that can take you around Brooklyn, to Breezy Point or the other way to the East Side. Now that...
Read moreFast, reliable, and scenic views on the ferry!! Despite the price going up from $4 to $4.50, it still has some wonderful views that are better than the free ferry and is priced like a ferry but feels like a cruise. The way you feel the breeze of the water in such speeds onboard is actually wonderful! I like this much more than the free one, although this isn't 24/7, 365 days like the free one. You can even get views of the Empire State Building, Hudson Yrds, the vessel, a closeup view of the WTC and much more from the Hudson River. You can even pay in cash as well needed if you don't have a credit card to use on your phone or just can't find the app! I use this alot when I'm solo going back from Manhattan, although I use the free one going there since I can't ever catch this one going to Manhattan due to delays on SIR. Definitely recommended to tourists trying to get some closeup views from the Hudson...
Read moreIt is a poorly run service; dirty interior and rude staff. And wait we pay for this while there is a free option?!
What prompted this review is their child fare policy which is arbitrary/subjective. Be prepared to be denied access if the staff thinks your kid should pay full fare. Ny waterway at least goes by age and has free kids for the summer.
We were told that our kid is taller than “that” pole (which wasn’t a problem on the way this morning). It was especially annoying when we had another child sleeping in the stroller.
Just use Staten...
