The Nailery — Local services in New York

I was very happy with their services for the past two years but I have noticed the past five or so times I have come to get my nails done the quality of the work and the kindness of the employees has greatly gone down. My nails have chipped within a week of getting them done (even the gels). The last time I came in I had arrived 40 minutes before closing. They asked if they could do the manicure while I was getting my toes done and I said yes. They did not soak my hands, did not push back my cuticles well and when I politely asked her to do it again she said she already had. They charged me for a full price manicure though I did not want any polish and I had asked if they were going to do that earlier. They push you to pay right away and I wanted to go get cash from my car for the tip but she was pushy so she pushed me put it on my card as a separate transaction. Then three days later my toenails chipped and I looked closely and they had only put on one coat of polish. When I went back the woman at the front desk was very rude yelling out that there was no way they had not put on enough polish although I had been polite to her. Absolutely a waste of time and money. I called ahead to confirm they do gel extensions, and was told yes. When I arrived, the staff seemed confused and spoke to me with a disrespectful tone. I was polite and simply asked if they could do a fade or cat eye design , something I’ve had done many times elsewhere. They refused.

When I settled for just a fade and even showed an example from their own Google reviews, they then told me they can’t do extensions- it will take more time, but will do only gels. I’ve never heard of that distinction, why get gels if you can’t extend the nails?

In the end, I wasted 40 minutes, left with no service, and felt the staff was both rude and unprofessional. On top of that, their prices are extremely high for people who clearly don’t know what they’re doing. I would not recommend this salon.

PS I get my nails done every couple of weeks, this was a rushed appointment, that left me feeling extremely upset. It would have been much easier if they said they can’t do any of these things on the phone...

I came here randomly one day and got a gel manicure. $50 for a gel manicure is too expensive but I should’ve known because of the area. That being said I figured it would be a long lasting manicure for maybe 3-4 weeks, but low and behold my gel nails have chipped and cracked within 4 days of getting them. I also noticed how the women working there hound people for tips, I get it, they should be tipped for their hard work but they literally chased down one woman and accused her of not tipping when she did.
