I received a promotional email today from Ridgewood Pilates (even after unsubscribing) and I promptly remembered how Gosia treated me. She didn’t want me in her classes so she made me feel bad about being there after I had already purchased a class package. During the short conversations I had with her, she pointed out all the other classes in my area that she presumed was closer to my location than hers was. She did this twice, even after I made it clear that I purposely came to her studio.
I’m not sure what the issue was, but during her incessant questioning I get the sense that it had something to do with my skin color. After this experience, I begin to notice that her usual clientele does not look like me. One of the older ladies who overheard one of the conversations confirmed what I suspected as well.
I don’t usually experience blatant racism and I don’t care that Gosia doesn’t like people like me. But I suppose this review will be somewhat helpful to another WOC when researching Pilates studios in the area.
If you are a non-POC, the class itself is ok. And the other people that I’ve met while attending the class were very nice.
Edited: 8/2025 You know exactly who I am. You’ve had endless conversations with me about the Jamaican guy you were dating at the time. I hope he caught on to your racist ways. And, I hope that after all this time that you’ve simmered down with the racism. Do you think that everyone who uses Gmail signed up with their real name? I can excuse your stupidity, not...
Read moreLike many others, this RP has changed my life for the better. Coming off of four knee surgeries in the past two years, I decided to try a class after my physical therapist introduced me to basic moves on a reformer. It’s now been over four months of consistent sessions and I still look forward to each class! The new studio is bigger and has so many class options. That being said, it has retained its small boutique environment. I know I will be challenged and get modifications from Kimberly, get some good booty work and laughs from Gosia, and rejuvenate and get great core work from all of the instructors.
Callout: there is non metered parking off the side streets; it’s also a short walk from the M and there are a couple of bus lines that are right on...
Read moreI had my first ever pilates class here and it was amazing. Kimberly was so kind and helped me set up the reformer before class and guided me through some of the positions throughout the class. Open level class is very welcoming to beginners and I especially like that it was a small group so it was not intimidating at all for someone starting pilates for the first time. I will definitely be back, I felt so incredible after. Thank you for a...
