I don't like writing negative reviews, so I thought about this a lot.
I had a difficult experience with Mary. She did not listen to what I wanted, and even insisted that my hair naturally parted on the left side. After 50 + years with my hair I think I know where the natural part is, but she argued and then cut my hair her way, with a parting on the left.
She spent maybe 20 min on my haircut and talked the whole time about herself. I ended up with an extreme a-symetrical cut, for $170 plus Tip (which she did not deserve). She also threw some product in a bag with my receipt, without my knowing it. My husband noticed and believes I paid for it in addition to the hairct and tip but I cannot confirm that since I threw away the receipt.
I have been devoted to Sassoon since the 70's and have never had a bad experience, until this one. When I got home after that trip to NY I went to a local small salon (where they have no attitude, treat clients with care and LISTEN to what their client would like done). The sylist was able to cut my hair again so it looks good, parts on the correct side, and overall makes some sense. Most women care about their hair. A lot. Mary did not seem to care about my hair or me: she seemed only to want a captive audience for chit chat about her life in which I had little interest—mostly because I was feaking out about what she was...
Read moreThe beautiful thing about Vidal Sassoon is that you know you're going to get a great haircut no matter where in the world your choice salon happens to be at. I never managed to make it over to my regular stylist Ryan@Covent Garden salon before my trip, so arrived to New York with a bit of a disaster bonnet. Which clearly wouldn't do. So once I got over my jetlag and the blistering heat, I übered it over to Sassoon Salon and was lucky enough to get a cut there and then, curtesy of super-talented Chu. The rest of the staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere cool yet buzzy, soundtrack very much in the background, unless you hear a song you really like and know all lyrics to, in which case you can hum to your heart content.... But I digress. My main point here being that everyone talks about branding, yet very few companies actually manage to pull it off with anywhere near as much panache and conviction as Vidal Sassoon. Oh, and one more thing: my haircut is wash and go (see the pic? Wash. Go!). What kind of...
Read moreDO NOT GO TO BOMI. She cut off 5 inches of my hair that was never discussed. She gave no explanation why, was difficult when I expressed my displease, tried to stop me from talking to a manager. Her managers insisted I take another trip to the salon just to get a refund. Business must be bad because they were desperate to have me see another hair stylist-I think that's why they had me come in instead of refunding me over the phone.
As others have said in their reviews, the bathroom situation is disgusting. You have to be escorted to the club monaco employee bathroom-there were no paper towels. The overall vibe of this salon is so unprofessional, as the assistant manager was discussing this terrible haircut with me 2 different employees interrupted us to ask if they could leave early for the day. The waiting area for the salon is in the club monaco and the employees just kind of loiter around here.
I do not recommend this...
