Skinny Medspa is by far the most unsafe and unprofessional establishment I have ever dealt with. I honestly do not understand how they are still in business, and I strongly believe they should be investigated.
I went in for a TruSculpt treatment, something that is marketed as safe and non-invasive. Instead, I was left severely burned. The staff who operated the machine had no clue what they were doing. They fumbled through the process, seemed completely untrained, and when I started feeling intense pain, they brushed it off as if it was “normal.” Nothing about what I experienced was normal — it was negligent and dangerous.
Let me break down the red flags:
Untrained Staff: The person operating the machine clearly had little to no medical or technical training. A professional medspa should never allow someone like that to work on clients. Unsafe Environment: The machines were outdated, and the treatment room didn’t feel sterile or professional. It gave me zero confidence that safety protocols were being followed. No Accountability: After I was burned, they showed no concern, no responsibility, and offered no real solution. They acted like it was no big deal. A real medical spa would have stopped immediately, assessed the damage, and taken care of the client. Horrible Customer Service: Instead of apologizing or making it right, they minimized what happened and made me feel like I was overreacting. I was in pain and worried about my skin, and they were dismissive and careless.
The aftermath was awful — I had to seek medical attention for the burns, deal with physical pain, and face the stress of not knowing how this would affect my skin long term. What was supposed to be a simple treatment turned into a nightmare.
This place is a scam and a hazard. They advertise themselves as a professional medspa, but in reality, it’s a poorly run business with unsafe practices, unqualified staff, and zero concern for client safety.
I would not recommend Skinny Medspa to anyone — not even for something small. If they can’t handle a treatment without burning someone, imagine how careless they are with everything else. Do yourself a favor and stay away. There are plenty of safe, reputable places out there. Skinny Medspa is not...
Read moreI came to this med spa for a Fraxel treatment after reading the positive reviews, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing and ultimately damaging.
This wasn’t my first Fraxel treatment—I’ve had it done at another clinic in the past with fantastic results and no complications. I only switched spas because of the glowing reviews for this location, but I now regret that decision.
Before the procedure, the aesthetician drew guide lines on my face, and unfortunately, those marks later developed into areas of hyperpigmentation. I also believe the depth settings may have been inappropriate for my skin type, leading to scarring. To make matters worse, I was given protective goggles that I wasn’t sure were sanitized before use—something that should be a basic safety standard.
I had a short phone consultation minutes prior to the appointment—likely with a nurse—but it happened far too close to the actual treatment. A proper evaluation should have taken place at least one to two weeks in advance to ensure my skin was adequately prepped.
In fairness, I should have spoken up and asked more questions. Because I had undergone Fraxel before with such excellent results, I let my guard down and didn’t push for more information—that part is on me. But I trusted the facility to maintain the same level of care I’d previously experienced elsewhere.
After the treatment, I was so concerned by the outcome that I went to a board-certified dermatologist, who confirmed the hyperpigmentation and put me on hydroquinone to try and reverse the damage.
While the spa was clean and the staff friendly, this kind of advanced laser treatment should only be performed by licensed nurses or certified medical professionals. Based on my experience, I do not believe this facility is equipped to provide Fraxel safely or effectively.
I hope this review helps others ask the right questions and choose a provider with the proper credentials. When it comes to your skin, experience and oversight matter more...
Read moreSkinney Med Spa is, by far, the standard to which all other med spas should be judged.
Not only is it still owned by a family that pioneered the affordable application of laser technology in skin care and anti aging, but all spas are staffed with friendly, patient and experienced laser technicians who are hyper focused on their clients’ needs and budgets.
As an anti-aging junkie myself, I have watched this spa morph into the largest and most beautiful med spa chain on the east coast, and it is no accident. It prides itself on always updating its equipment to the most current and cutting edge modalities available to customers who want efficacious, near immediate results without expensive and time consuming invasive techniques like surgery.
Skinney’s, dare I say it, gorgeous all female staff present all options available in private, unrushed consultations and never engage in any off-putting hard sell tactics. They work with all budgets and treat everyone like royalty.
You won’t have trouble feeling like royalty either in any of their spas which are decidedly NON medical in decor and luxuriously designed for relaxation and stress reduction. Each private treatment room is equipped with a huge TV and LED mood lighting.
I have trusted no one else with my skin care and occasional body sculpting sessions for over a decade and would highly encourage anyone to stop by their brand new flagship location on East 60th Street which is drop dead spectacular.
I can’t say enough about this place and their amazing staff. It always feels like home and whenever I refer someone, they leave with not only exceeded expectations, but with a huge smile on their face (and less wrinkles!). Thank you...
