I’m a current SVA student in the illustration department, and I really wanted to express the amount of facilities us students have on campus as well as the community. First, we have a lot of computer labs that hold desktops and even Wacom Tablets, which are very helpful because some students cannot afford to get really expensive equipment for themselves. So when the school provides these labs, it’s very nice to know they are looking out for the students. If I will be completely honest I do wish the labs were open much later but then again pulling all nighters or staying up late isn’t the best! What I did not know going into SVA is that all the professors work in the industry so giving critique during classes, most of the time, is very helpful! Other than the professors, it’s peers that make your experience. Most of my classes are filled with passionate artists with big ideas in art. It makes me even want to create more at this school
Overall, I do like SVA. I learned a lot here and I’m going to learn more after I graduate. In the illustration department we have a range of different classes for specific focuses. Maybe I’m too greedy but I want even more classes. I am taking a Lifestyle Illustration, as well as an Advanced Motion class and it gives me an experience of what artists actually experience in the work field . I want more classes that give you either boring or interesting prompts for you to make the best art you’re able to make. I really enjoy SVA and I’m really glad I’m able to improve my artist...
Read moreI’m a current senior in SVA’s BFA Illustration program, and I wanted to extend my gratitude to this school. Over the past few years, I’ve watched myself grow as both an artist and a person, and I owe so much of that growth to the faculty at SVA. The professors here are some of the kindest and most knowledgeable/skilled people I’ve ever met in the industry, and with their support, I’ve been able to come out of my shell and create a graduating portfolio I’m truly proud of. I’ve felt nothing but encouragement to explore different subject matters, mediums, and approaches to my work. Both my studio and humanities professors have bolstered my character and career. Aside from academics, I’ve also been provided with incredible opportunities to get involved on campus, whether that be through on-campus working positions or student engagement events. SVA has given me the tools to communicate effectively with others, both in business and interpersonal settings. If I had to name an area of improvement for the school, it would be the amount of space provided to the illustration and comics department. Illustration is the largest major at SVA and it is currently occupying two floors shared with the comics department. I feel that future students would benefit from more space, especially additional spaces to explore traditional media. With that being said, I couldn't have chosen a better place to achieve my bachelor’s degree. SVA is truly a dream school for any...
Read moreThe SVA Registrar building has inept workers. Well, one particular inept worker. I went into their office because my Student ID stopped working and Residence Hall Director at my dorm directed me to the Registrar. I explained this to one of the workers, but she didn't understand what I meant, and she was speaking to me in a really condescending way. She thought I just needed a sticker, so I kept repeating "my ID is not working" and she finally got it. She promptly told me to go back to my Residence building and that I could get my ID fixed there. She really seemed like she couldn't be bothered to help me. So I went back and for the next two weeks I kept bugging them about it. As it turned out there was no way for them to activate my ID. It had to be done at the Registrar. So not only was that woman rude to me, but she gave me the wrong advice. Today I went back to the Registrar and spoke to a different worker who was very nice and helpful, a redheaded woman. I explained my problem to her and she activated my ID and it only took a few minutes. All in all my ID is fixed now, but that first worker still gave me terrible service. I hope she sees this,...
