Bullying, controlling, and harassment behaviors need to be held accountable. Especially if the person claims to be a Christian.
In New York City, harassment is a legally recognized offense. What does āharassmentā mean, legally in NY? Harassment in the 2nd degree (a violation, not a crime) can include following someone in public, repeated unwanted contact, threats, or behavior intended to alarm or annoy.
Aggravated harassment (a misdemeanor) can apply if threats are made over phone, electronic means, or involve discriminatory intent.
(10/29/2024) Harassment at St. John Vianney Church
I've been experiencing harassment, stalking, and intimidation (standing close and staring) walking through here with my dog. This has happened about 5 times with individuals who are older women, and usually Asian.
The first incident occurred in April 2024 - an older Chinese woman maybe in her 70s followed me halfway down the block, taking pictures.
Then, there was the group of 3 Asian women, maybe in their 60s, standing close behind me while my dog was sniffing the grass, just, silently staring. Then when I turned to look at them, they started to tell me the usual spiel about "this is private property", "this is church property", you should not let your dog pee here.
There was the non-asian woman, maybe Spanish? Who again, got in my personal space as I was sitting on the steps by the office, taking a rest, to repeat this same spiel.
Another incident occurred on Mon. 10/28/24 An older Chinese woman approached where my dog was eating the weeds and grass, went through the whole spiel, and stood in our path blocking the way. While continuing to say judgmental things relating to 'a dog on private property' and 'don't let your dog pee and poo here' (while I am clearly holding the dog's poo bag). She starts to accost people passing by to try to also pull them into this confrontation she is creating. As I'm walking toward the parking gate, she follows me, still talking at me, and starts to say that she is going to take a picture of me and show it around.
As of 9/2/2025, have spoken with Cathy to speak with church leadership about this issue. The most recent of which occurred on Labor Day, 9/1/2025, while walking through the church's annual outdoor flea market/thrift shop, held for the month of September. Waiting to hear back from...
