My client lived at Brookdale from 2016 until earlier this year. What follows are views from me, her geriatric care manager, her live-in aide and her family members: Brookdale Battery Park is not just a residence; it's a warm and welcoming community that becomes a cherished home. I had the pleasure of witnessing the exceptional experience that my client had while residing at Brookdale from 2016 until their passing earlier this year. The environment is perfect for making new connections, forming meaningful friendships, and sharing experiences. The place truly lives up to being a great spot for expanding one's social circle. Food is an integral part of life, and at Brookdale, they excel in providing a varied and tasty menu. The culinary options cater to different preferences and dietary needs, ensuring that every meal is a delightful experience. In essence, Brookdale Battery Park is an all-round fabulous place to enjoy life in retirement. It's not merely a place to live; it's a space where life is celebrated, connections are made, and where each individual is embraced for who they are.    Read moreThe facility is not worth the money. Until my mom's death a month ago, she resided in a 1 bdrm apt. The starting cost in 2015 8k. The ending cost 13k. Please note, that when a resident moves or dies the apartment is upgraded with the latest appliances. The starting cost for an updated1bdrm 8k. My mom's appliances and fixtures looked liked something from the late 70s. Last year, I asked for new carpeting or flooring. Nothing happened. They didn't have the staff to give the off-white carpet a proper cleaning. An outside vendor was hired to clean the carpet. This year the outdated fridge sprung a leak. My mom paid for the cleanup. Just before my mom died, I had signed a rental agreement for an apartment across the street. It was 8k a month with 1,200 sq.feet.There were new appliances, an island kitchen, and 2 full baths. If you are an independent senior then Brookdale is not worth the money. If you become incapacitated hire a caretaker. That's what I did for my mom. Also there is an uneasy hierarchy at the facility. The residents are well-to-do white folks. The support staff and aides are mostly women of color. The disrespect for the staff starts at the top. Moreover, the hierarchy isn't accustomed to dealing with black women who are not home health aides. I hired my mom's caretaker from Brookdale. Brookdale's management attempted to bully me in not hiring the caretaker. They indicated that the caretaker's contract prohibited direct hires. I requested that they scan the contract to my attention. Needless to say, the caretaker was with my mom until she took her last breath. She was godsend...
Read moreMy mom and dad moved here 10 years ago. When Dad needed assistance, the aides were there to provide it and always with a smile. He is no longer with us, but Mom continues to thrive. She loves it and is on many committees and groups. Activites are many and various - can't enumerate them all, but suffice to say that there is something for everyone. My siblings and I always visited her at least once a week before Covid and had many wonderful dinners in the dining room. Mom has many friends here, but unfortunately, she hasn't been able to see them this year, so in lieu of visits with her friends, she especially loves having the ability to walk along the Hudson and in the parks - the location could not be better suited for her and the safety of the area makes us all feel content that she is safe.
Since the pandemic hit, we could not be happier with the care and attention given to the residents since we could not be there in person. The daily communications at the beginning of the pandemic were a lifeline to all the families and everyone at Brookdale is so responsive. We feel that Brookdale is the best place for her and we especially appreciate the attentions of Brendan, Leila, Whitney and Dr. Q. We are so happy with Brookdale that we recently had another family member move in and he is very happy, as well. Highly...
