My (now) fiance paid for a 2 hour boat tour/experience back on July 5th. However, because of the weather, the caption had us stationary in the river meaning we DIDN'T get to go by the Statue of Liberty nor did we really get to sail much at all. At the one hour mark the captain told us we had to dock and could not go back out because there was lightening (which we COMPLETELY understood). But because we got cut short an entire hour and didn't even get the full sailing experience in which we paid for, we were kindly asking for a partial refund. He said that the captain told us we could wait for the storm to pass and try again, which was NOT the case. We were told to get off the boat and the boat dock. The captain only apologized for our time getting cut short and to reach out to the owner for our options. The owner is trying to say that the captain and the photographer both told him that I (me personally) didn't want to go back out and I just wanted to get off and go get drinks instead... little insight: I hardly even drink so that couldn't be further from the truth. Our 4 day trip to NYC, and I only had one drink this entire trip and it wasn't even on this night!!
Long story short, I do NOT RECOMMEND booking through this company. They handled this situation with such unprofessionalism and rudeness. As business owners ourselves, we would never talk to clients of our own in the same manner that they have.
For them to offer us credit to basically give someone else for a booking instead of offering us a partial refund is mind boggling and unreasonable.
I do not like leaving negative reviews, as I know how important reviews can be for a business, but I do not appreciate when a person or company lies to make themselves look better. I don't appreciate "words being put in my mouth" like that and saying something that is not true. I would not recommend Tribeca Sailing to anyone for...
Read moreWe enjoyed a sensational sail in the NYC harbor this Easter 2018. Having experienced some of the other boat tours in NYC harbor and waterways, I'd say the sail with Captain David is by far the best. The sail boat is an elegant 1960's delight, perfectly maintained by a captain who obviously loves to sail and believes in doing it impeccably.
Captain David is conversant and informative about NYC and its harbor and waterways, a native of Long Island who got his start sailing when his mother motivated him to join the crew of a sailboat race, over his opposition. That race changed his life forever! He's now a full-time sailor! We appreciated his educational detail about NYC, but also were thankful for the quiet times on the boat, snapping great photos of NYC and NJ, surrounding islands, and the magnificent monuments.
The marina is an easy walk from the financial district where we stayed and is in a really clean/pretty part of NYC between Tribeca and Battery Park. If you look at the bird's eye view of NYC in the picture I've included, 2/3 of the way down in the middle of the pic, you'll see a square marina area in the Hudson River, just left of a white square shape, which is the ferry building. That area in the Hudson with the jutting boat piers is the marina from which you launch. It's a beautiful spot from which to start your journey right by the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, with harbor views of the southern tip of Manhattan, the financial district, magnificent views of the World Trade Center and towards the end of the sail, views of the Hudson River greenway and Midtown.
We plan to sail on Tara (name of the boat) again, perhaps the evening sail next time we're in NYC.
I'd suggerst skipping the big, over-crowded motorized tour boats and ferries and enjoy a relaxed, intimate lofty...
Read moreIt's been over a week since I experienced what it was like taking a voyage with Captain David on the sailboat TARA. It was quite a memorable and unforgettable experience, one definitely worth repeating. My first impression of the boat was that it was immaculate, a sparkling white and green exterior with gorgeous wood detail inside and out. It had soft luxurious seat cushions and whiter than white sails if that's possible. I would equate this 50 year old vessel to a classic rolls royce in absolute mint condition. The intent of my trip was to catch up and have some fun with some family members I haven't seen in a long time, but it ended up being so much more. There were 6 of us with plenty of room to sit and talk or put our feet up to relax. I surprisingly felt myself doing the latter most of time on our excursion.
I also felt the experience was intimate, whereas David gave TARA her own wide personal space with no other boats nearby. And when I noticed the spectacular view of Lower Manhattan, I became engrossed and mesmerized at the enormity of the buildings, a vantage point only able to be seen on water. Somehow the experience remained intimate and not touristy. In all my years living on LI and visiting NYC, I've never seen the Statue of Liberty so up-close and personal before. That experience alone makes the excursion worth repeating. If you're looking for a unique experience with memories that will last a lifetime, I highly recommend a Tribecasailing adventure with Captain David onboard the Hinckley Sailboat TARA. One warning... You'll become addicted and will want to come...
