AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Update 2: Saw the owner response. Here's the actual timeline: Service: June 14 calls to the salon to speak with owner: June 15 thru early July email to salon with pictures: July 5 review placed: July 6 (was not my first response at all!) Owner response: July 7 My response with my hairdresser's info: Aug 2 reminder text re the Aug 2 text: Aug 10 His reply: Aug 10 - he had not contacted my previous hairdresser. We discussed the timeline of the communication about this issue. He said he needed to ask his partner about honoring the commitment to fix this -I never heard from him again. Update posted: Aug 21
indeed, I was VERY uncomplimentary about the horrendous service, as it was so bad I cried for weeks and had to pin my hair up or cover it for nearly 2 months (until Salon Ziba fixed it enough to wear down.) I waited over 3 weeks, with weekly calls to the salon and an email with photos, to post a negative review, and he only responded after it was posted. Negative reviews are not a threat, and I never post them unless multiple efforts to resolve an issue are unsuccessful.
Update: When the mgmt refused to fix the mess created by their stylist, I went to Salon Ziba (recommended by a friend). SALON ZIBA fixed the mess FOR FREE when TJS refused to. THEY did what they could to make the cut itself wearable (despite their shock at how bad it was!), though they recommended another 3-4 weeks of growing unless I was willing to go very short (from nearly waist length originally!)
3 weeks after the appt a manager FINALLY called me back. He told me to have my previous stylist call him to explain what I already explained, and asked me to remove my negative review "in good faith" despite not even having an appt to fix it. When I called him back with her info he refused to honor the "good faith" promise to fix the mess, saying since I didn't take down the review the damage was already done, so he no longer cared.
initial review: I went in for a cut and color with Zelda. I booked in advance and told them to include extra time because my hair is both long and thick. It was a terrible experience. First, I requested red with violet undertones (with photo reference) and Zelda decided SHE preferred copper with brown undertones. As soon as she started applying I asked because the color was very copper. She lied and said it was what I requested, but after, when it was done, she told me she decided to change the color because it had been a year since the last time I dyed my hair. What!?!? Additionally, she did a terrible job. Hot roots next to missing color around the hairline. Very uneven application throughout. I'd have done a better job with box dye at home.
The hair cut was so bad she had to call in another stylist because she wasn't capable of following the multiple reference photos I provided, and refused to listen to me about how my hair grows and falls in a cut. She started with a dry cut, and as my hair was up when I went in it had weird waves when she took it down, which she didn't even thoroughly wet before cutting it. The other stylist improved it, but the cut is still very bad and looks terrible. My hair was down to mid back when I went in for long layers, ended up shoulder length with hideous bangs, so I have to wear it back until it grows enough to find a competent stylist to fix this mess. Years of growing it to get to the style I wanted, wasted. It's actually less about the length than the layers and bangs, which are just terrible, and that was the "fix."
I've been calling to speak with a manager for 3 weeks now, including on days the staff said he'd be in. Somehow he never is, and has never returned my calls. Terrible cut, terrible color, terrible service. I waited to write this review because I really wanted to give them a chance to make it right (and no, cutting it even shorter would not have...
Read moreI had a wonderful experience at this salon! I was visiting my daughter in NYC when I tripped on the sidewalk and scraped skin off of both my hands and one elbow very badly. My left hand swelled and I couldn't hold a blow dryer or a brush in it & I couldn't bend my right arm much without being in pain. I also had grey hair showing which would I normally cover myself with root touch up. I needed to be able to go out but I was in pain & hated the way I looked. I was very hesitant to try a place I'd never been in the heart of NYC! There were so many things I was worried about. Thankfully nothing I was worried about happened. First I did call ahead and got an appointment for the next day. They took me right on time with no wait. The front desk receptionist offered me a cup of water which I thought was very nice. The salon is neat and clean. The thing that I really appreciated was how RELAXING the salon is. No blaring music, no crowded waiting area, no overbooked stylists! At one point the owner, Timothy, came over and talked to me for a few min because he heard me explaining how I fell - that was very sweet. My colorist, Gracie, was easy to talk to and did exactly what I asked for - just a basic root touch up that would blend with my existing color & highlights. She did a perfect job - great color match & she was careful to wipe any that got on my forehead below my hairline so no stains. Keoni did my blowout (apologies for any misspelling!). She did a fabulous job! It was smooth on top & bouncy on the bottom - exactly what I asked for. I have thick, wavy, frizzy hair so she had to make many sections & she smoothed the roots to mids perfectly & then used the round brush to curl the ends. I think it took at least 45 min just for the blow dry. The color & blow out took about 2 hrs which was very quick compared to the salon I go to at home. Then came the scariest part. Time to pay. I had seen the prices on their website & fully expected to pay the top price + more for the additional time my hair always takes. I actually asked the receptionist twice if she was sure when she told me the amount. It came to $185 total. That is amazing! I just can't thank this salon enough! I was hurting & having a very bad couple of days & this wonderful experience put a bounce in my step - and in my hair! I have already recommended them to my daughter and I hope this salon will become her...

They gave me 4 hours of their time. They were so caring, friendly, helpful. Just the place you feel like you'll find a pretexte to come back and hangout. The products. Look at the quality of my hair. I found this place through Redken's website and man! My hair had the safest products. I left the salon with hair healthier than ever even though I did a 4hours process. But the treatments and the selection of the products was just beyond magic, science that the staff there was mastering. The location. Located on 8th between 53rd and 52nd. It's few steps from subways, and restaurants and bars (because believe me you'll want to celebrate your perfection. Every single person left with a huge smile almost like we were entering an Instagram filter boutique. Honestly I just met this awesome professionnal Feliciano and please don't rely on his traits; he is not 24 or 27, the wizzard has soooo soooo much experience. I don't know his secret to look this young but just look at these skills and professionalism. (And the patience!!!!! 4 HOURS). believe me correcting a messed up color is one of the hardest things way more than doing a...
