The sun was setting over the Hudson River, casting a warm glow across the water. I stood on the High Line, admiring the vibrant skyline. It was one of those evenings when the city felt alive, the air buzzing with anticipation. And suddenly, a faint thrum broke the tranquil ambiance. I turned my head and saw a helicopter approaching, its blades slicing through the air with a rhythmic cadence. It was a sleek, black chopper, the kind that looked like it belonged in a movie. I followed its descent, heart racing with curiosity. The helicopter, by flying over the river, was headed for a designated landing and approached the concrete pad, aligning for a smooth descent. It came to my mind that the West 30th Street Heliport, also known as BLADE West Heliport, is located over there. The heliport was opened with two landing pads in 1956. The helicopter’s presence drew a small crowd on the High Line. Everyone was taking pictures and recording videos, captivated by the spectacle. I smiled, sharing the moment with strangers, united by the wonder of it all. As the helicopter prepared for its next departure, I realized that this little landing spot on the Hudson was not just a waypoint; it was a bridge between everyday life and extraordinary adventures. I think it is good to know that the West 30th Street Heliport is primarily used for several purposes: 1. Tourist Flights: It offers scenic helicopter tours over Manhattan and surrounding areas, allowing visitors to see iconic landmarks from the air. 2. Private Charters: The heliport serves as a departure and arrival point for private helicopter charters, catering to individuals and businesses. 3. Medical Transport: It is used for air ambulance services, providing quick transport for patients in emergency situations. 4. Corporate Travel: Many businesses use the heliport for quick commutes to and from meetings, avoiding traffic on the ground. Overall, it serves a mix of recreational and essential transportation needs.

I did not use this heliport. But I was fascinated by all of the helicopters that went in and out of it. Here are some very good photographs that I got of them.

Outrageous noise producer. The decibel levels there (in a public park btw) are not just above what’s recommended, the noise - especially from the Sikorskys - is enough to cause permanent ear damage. There is no excuse for subjecting the public to the endless noise, pollution and reduced quality of life the heliport and its...

Great facilities. The VIP lounge has a bar with classy, comfortable accommodations. If you're landing, call for prior coordination. Not as busy as Wall Street heliport, but it has its fair share of helicopter traffic. If you're looking for a charter, Blade Aviation will help...
