I have been aware of the brand and company for many years but the ads are way too political for me so I was not interested in learning about them and what they offer. The weekend right before the covid shutdown in March 2020, I was forced to move out of a one bedroom apartment in Fort George. I had given the landlord a full month's notice that I was leaving end of March but the a-hole handyman of the building was threatening me and I didn't want any problems. I had signed a lease for a small studio apartment and I was just so overwhelmed with the combination of not knowing what to leave behind and the a-hole handyman barking threats at me and the guy helping me move stuff out. I rented the 10ft truck from U-Haul Riverdale and got the idea last minute to rent a storage unit there. I'm grateful for having that emergency option but that's only thing I can recommend for emergency. Six months later and I just can't keep letting them give me headaches. Everytime I went always some sort of problem. The worst part is no air conditioning in the storage building so it was torture everytime. Drink plenty of liquids or can pass out. Anyways, I had enough I needed to end things with U-Haul. I started searching for storage facilities in Manhattan. I knew it was going to be more expensive given that it's Manhattan and not the Bronx given the rent cost and less space. I did Google search and Manhattan Mini Storage has a surprising amount of locations. I read reviews and things looked good. I made calls over several days and the staff seems very nice and knowledgeable. Frank Sinanaj made me a believer. His excellent customer service made me feel that the living nightmares I had for six months with U-Haul Riverdale was not an industry standard. Frank Sinanaj practically gave me a nice introduction to the family owned company and how they pride themselves on having and keeping their customers happy. I mentioned to Frank Sinanaj that the ads are way too political which may be a huge turn-off for people like me that avoid overly political/religious situations. I suggested for him to mention during a staff meeting that it may benefit them and potential customers like me to balance things out and also put out objective ads so that people are aware of all the great benefits that come with renting a storage unit at one of their facilities, and plus that we are supporting a family business that has happy employees and customers. Some benefits not all: their facilities are air conditioned!!! Another amazing benefit is they have a free shuttle that will pick you up anywhere in Manhattan to take you to the storage facility or vice versa!!! They also have free two hour parking. They also 24 hour access to the storage units. They will receive your packages that are delivered by DHL, FedEx, and UPS as long as the package is less than 100lbs. They accept business accounts as long as the appropriate forms are provided to them. You can authorize other people to have access to the storage unit. General Manager Carlos is truly an angel on Earth. Possibly the nicest person I have ever met. Assistant Manager Joshua has been the in-person magic maker. Frank Sinanaj had suggested for me to look at three different sizes. Joshua very nice and calmly showed me all three units. He was very patient with me. He did not rush me. Frank Sinanaj answered all emails I sent with questions pretty quickly. I reserved a room and am just waiting for my family friend guy to be available so I can finally ditch U-Haul Riverdale for good and continue to be happy with Manhattan Mini Storage. I took some pictures. I am missing one of the shuttle van but I hope this lets me upload it when I use it the first time. Thanks Frank Sinanaj, Joshua, and the family that owns and operates Manhattan...
Read moreManhattan Mini Storage used to be fantastic. It is still quite good, but serious problems have developed since it was purchased from the original owners several years ago. (1) They raised my monthly rent from $47 to $121 over 22 months, less than 2 years! The raise was in $10 to $15 increments every few months. (2) More generally, they make changes to your monthly fee without notice, other than sneaking it into your monthly email invoice -- which you are unlikely to look at since you are on auto pay. (3) This practice includes adding a $10/month "insurance" fee, where the insurance has a maximum payoff of $1500, and there is virtually no need for the insurance since they rarely have theft or fires. I got the insurance fee waived, by showing them my home insurance document. But then they reinstated the insurance fee one year later without notice, so I put on my calendar to automatically show them the insurance document annually. (4) One time my autopay failed due to expiration of credit card. Instead of notifying me promptly, they waited and then slapped on a late fee. WTF? I updated the card within minutes of realizing that it was a problem. But this seems to be TYPICAL of their customer service when it comes to anything financial. Bizarre. (5) They took away the van service, which strikes me as penny-wise, pound foolish, since the van service made it very easy to move into storage.
I still like the facilities and the staff are quite helpful. They have a new security system which I assume is an upgrade. The facility overall is kept very clean. Requested changes to my rental are implemented promptly.
There is a lot to like! I still rent there after moving to a different and lower priced unit. Overall though, they have become financially sneaky, so buyer beware. (Treat your starting price as if it were a promotional price, and check the email invoice carefully...
Read moreThis is the best storage facility in NYC! This Hudson Yards location, at 29th St. & 11th Ave, is easily accessible any time 24/7, and situated only a block from the West Side Highway. There are three indoor parking / loading dock areas and an outside parking lot with easy access to more loading docks and parking spots. There is a large lobby & entrance area, which thoughtfully includes bathrooms too. The load-in area includes a large amount of rolling carts for moving boxes, etc. There are two elevators that are well-maintained and running 24 hours a day. Because of my small apartment, out of necessity, I have had the same storage room here for many years.
All of the staff whether at the front desk or keeping the premises clean are courteous, professional and helpful. If you need help with anything, they are there to assist!
Special mention for Andrew who is at the front sales desk. He is always friendly and very helpful for any and all of my requests.
The front office is now open 8am - 8pm, with 24 hour availability for patrons using their Manhattan Mini key card. This allows access time for evening and late night hours to work in your locker / room when needed. I often take advantage of the late nights as it is my “home away from home”.
The first and last thing of importance with a storage facility is security and Manhattan Mini Storage makes this their priority! This enables us to be confident that our rooms / lockers and belongings are totally safe in this...
