I had a nice experience at this studio. Check in staff was informative and patient, I got there later than I wanted to, about 5min before class (still in work clothes) and was not given an attitude or rushed at all. I didn't read these other reviews ahead of time but they wouldn't have stopped me from trying Y7. There's no shortage of warning that this class is held in the dark. If you've never done hot yoga, you should for sure not take a class in the dark - you won't be able to follow instructions like someone who has been through the motions at all. That's just silly. And they have adequate warnings all over the place for that. And a vinyasa flow is supposed to be a repetitive sequence of poses. This is not a Y7-only situation. Not being informed before attending a class isn't a reason to think poorly rate a studio. But any reasonable yogi will not be turned away by the comments made in the low rated reviews.
I found the ambiance a completely refreshing new spin on yoga for me. I've been practicing yoga and got yoga for 6 years and it was so cool to switch it up. I was informed immediately via email about the new client specials and I will definitely be taking Y7 up on one of them. The only drawback is the distance from work/my apartment to the locations. Not their fault, though.
The instructor was fabulous, her name was Kendra. She was not sassy that I crept into class a minute late, quite the opposite. I have experience at very militant hot yoga facilities. This was such a nice change. She made adjustments on each of us throughout class and helped us reach a deeper stretch when she could. She encouraged the class to do what we could and offered variations for those who were looking for a more intense or less intense pose. She led a wonderful class. I felt invigorated, well worked out, and peaceful walking out. One thing I didn't like about class was that for each sequence, the song was interrupted and changed. That didn't do a whole lot of positive for my zen. I get the idea behind it, because the routine is changing up, but I found it disruptive to the flow for me personally.
The facility was very clean, trendy, and nicely decorated.
Highly recommend checking it out. If you go on their site and book a class, they'll let you know what to expect accurately and fully. Don't let the low star ratings here dissuade you - this place really is great.
Also, I'm completely unaffiliated with Y7. In case you're wondering. I don't know anyone who works there/manages/owns it. Just trying to shed some light on what I think are...
Read moreI used to love this studio and have been going to y7 for years. Sadly, I feel like the customer service has declined. The receptionist gave my seat to someone else who was on standby before the class even began.
Another woman and I had the last two spots and she said she gave one seat away too early, and whoever came out of the elevator first could get the spot (so bizarre). Even though she said she would return credits or try to get me into the next class, because I am not a y7 member, she said she couldn’t do anything and told me to have a good day.
This was my first experience at y7 UES in a while and I was extremely frustrated and disappointed after driving 20 miles to the studio. It was a complete waste of my time with no repair on Y7’s end. I emailed customer service right away to avoid writing this review and giving another shot, but I got no reply. Truly upsetting for a once...
Read moreWas not allowed to take the class but I recommend all yoga-goers beware: I was 4 minutes late for the class and told there was a strict no-late policy and I could not take the class. I explained my situation (subway train canceled due to track maintenance so I ran 15 blocks, and their ancient elevator was not working forcing me to run up 4 flights of stairs once I got there), and the woman at the front only offered “I’m sorry it’s our policy.” I signed up for this class via ClassPass and was given minimal help for getting my credits refunded. Yoga is supposed to be a relaxing and meditative experience, and this kind of strict enforcement with no regard for extenuating circumstances, especially for a first time classgoer who was not aware of the policy, bodes poorly for this studio as a whole. Will never be...
