My diner at Tandoor Oven Left a bad taste on Nov 30th
I am going to get the best review I can for why I would not be eating at this establishment ever again. If you do eat at this establishment make sure you do the math on your check because the check we had been given the total was extremely over what everything added up to including the tax. The check was had written and pretty unreadable. Forget the fact that we asked one dish to be removed from the check because it was extremely spicy and no one could eat it and the server did not want to remove it kept saying that he would box it up and eat it later which we explained can't because staying at hotel. The tax rate is not shown on the check, and when the error I found was over $60 considering how cheap the entrees are. The server could not explain how he got that error or let us speak to the manager. My thoughts would be he tried to pull a fast one or its common practice at this establishment be customer be aware to check your hand written check.
Decor not sure about every ones preference but rugs on floor ceiling and walls don’t do it for me but that could be over looked if the service and food equality are great but they had not been that evening.
The server was very rude from the start, I was at the establishment with new friends visiting from Europe who wanted to try some Indian food after walking at central park for hours, I found the place using Google and the reviews seemed ok.
The restaurant was empty when we walked in and had been given a table my friend is a vegetarian and need a little more time to pick what she wanted, the server said she can't have more time and said she has to pick a dish very quickly and kept standing over her. Another person at the table does not mix diary and meat and we tried to explain that put he kept suggesting entrees that had yogurt. The food itself was not well balanced some dishes had no flavor at all and the presentation was pretty sloppy. The drink refiles had been slow even when only 3 tables in the establishment. I could say more things but its really not worth the effort for this establishment or service that we...
Read moreI visited Tandoor Oven several weeks ago and I haven't forgotten about it. In a place like New York, full of phenomenal kitchens and small, cozy venues, this is a place that must not be overlooked, especially if you are looking for Indian/Pakistani/Nepalese delights. The restaurant and seating area is all on one floor, the first dining area separated by a wall and a thin hall leading into the other dining space. I dined with a friend and we ordered the Kashmiri Rogan Josh and the Chicken Sula Tikka, respectively, with sides of naan bread and a dish of three sauces, and long grain jasmine rice. The portions were perfect and everything was absolutely delicious; fragrant, juicy, spiced to perfection, and made to pair and share. After our meal, we had drinks from the bar, which is the same counter you are greeted and seated from. The maitre d', Prakash, invented a cocktail for me and it was wonderful. During this evening, the staff whom I noticed was composed of no more than four or five persons, but they were efficient and very courteous. The dining experience was enhanced by their professionalism. I also appreciated how Tandoor Oven caters to DoorDash and other delivery services, so the restaurant can reach you at home or on a work break. Though the restaurant is small, I do feel strongly that if delivery people with bikes can get into the foyer, then accessibility for any persons with specific needs can be arranged without hesitation. Enjoy your next occasion here! Many thanks to Prakash and the staff at...
Read moreWhen we first moved to New York and started exploring the city, we would sometimes come upon Tandoor Oven in the Upper East Side. My wife would tell us the stories of how she and her mom would eat there frequently. After class, she would pick her mom up from the office and they would have dinner here. She would always order the chicken korma, and her mom the tandoori chicken.
She would always say this is the best tandoori chicken ever, and that she always judges every tandoori chicken everywhere against it. I personally have always been skeptical, especially since I've never liked it anywhere we eat. It's always dry, usually bland and often charred. But she insisted it's really good. So when we finally had a chance to visit Tandoor Oven for mother's day we ordered it, alongside some palak paneer and lamb korma.
I am NOT kidding when I say this is the BEST tandoori chicken I've had in my entire life. It's so good, I've reconsidered my whole stance on tandoori chicken, and am EMBARRASSED for all the other restaurants that serve it poorly. Shame on you, guys.
We had the leftovers for dinner the next day and it was still really really good. Still juicy and tender, still flavorful. Whenever we're looking for this dish, Tandoor Oven is the only place that...
