Naoko is amazing! This haircut is the best I've had in years. I walked in with a frizzy head of thick, disobedient hair––and she made it manageable and beautifully wavy! She really took the time to understand my hair texture and routine (washing & styling habits, how it reacts to different climates, what shape I had in mind).
She opened a large Japanese hairstyle book and pointed to different haircuts. We had a pleasant 10–15 minutes conversation about how to proceed. She was always polite, friendly, and professional: she knew when to take on an idea and when to oppose it with her expert opinion. (Example: I asked about bangs, and she very honestly explained what the maintenance would be like, how it would look with my cowlick, etc.)
She gave me the perfect, low maintenance haircut that always dries perfectly, looking like I’ve styled it. The next time I'm in town, I'll definitely be back. I highly...
Read moreI have never had a haircut at Yama hair salon. However, I have been booking haircuts there for an executive for more than 2 years now and the customer service is excellent. Booking is easy to do online, but if you do pick up the phone - when you call the salon they actually pick up the phone. When I have hit a wall with something that I cannot do/find out online, it is rare for people to actually answer the phone or speak to you when you try to call a business. Yama Salon answers if they are able to, and are always very helpful and kind. Can I promise you will receive a good haircut without having been there myself? No. However, the executive I book for always goes to see Junya, and his hair always looks great. :) He travels to go see him, even though its out of his way. I think that speaks volumes, considering...
Read moreI have nothing but positive things to say about Junya as a person, but as a hair stylist? I wouldn't even recommend my worst enemy to get their hair cut from here. I had hair all the way down to my waist and asked to get 2-2.5 inches cut. Junya cut almost 5-6, which according to him was "because I wanted layers." Uh no... Even if I wanted layers, the longest piece should have still been only 2 inches--2.5 inches at most--shorter. I ended up paying $95 for the haircut with tip, but ended up having to go to another salon to fix the shoddy work Junya did. If it was just the length, I would have been whatever, but the haircut itself was horrible. So messy and made my hair look even frizzier than ever. Do not recommend. I'm confused how this salon has so many...
