Okay. Keeping in mind that my child is currently 3 and this playground is likely best for kids a little older, this is my breakdown for this playground.
Pros generally usable for a wide range of ages. There is a very small area that could be used by kids who aren't even walking yet with supervision because it's small and low. This is one of the newest playgrounds in the area and as such has some of the best climbing options as well as padding throughout. Sprinkler: the kids are excited about it now but as the summer passes I suspect I will spend a lot more time in the water than they will. -Great area, lots to do. This is a fantastic area to spend a day even if it's not up the street from you. Some of the best shopping in the world is on the surrounding streets and there are limitless options for food. From historic Lombardi's, Prince Street Pizza, and Eileen's Cheesecake to smoothies stands as well as vegan and fusion options, this neighborhood truely has it all. -Latched gates. This should be a given... but it's not. And as the mother of a small child I really appreciate that this playground has them. -Friendly. Parents and kids are not the same at all playgrounds and, generally speaking, the people who visit this playground are kind and engaging.
Cons Lots of seating. This is a bustling area and this park is one of the only places in the neighborhood to sit. So there are usually more people in this park without kids than with kids. The basketball courts and Sprinkler area are not blocked off in any way from the rest of the playground. Again, with older kids this is probably not a big deal. But with a small child, it's inconvenient. -It floods. There is one drain for most of the play area at the bottom of the small slide and since there are usually lots of leaves and other such debris, there is almost always a small lake in this part of the playground for a day or two...
Read moreIs the summer heat of the New York getting to you? Did your kids max out your credit card shopping in SoHo? Did the hoard of fellow tourists and out-of-towners finally get to you? Well, find the oasis that is the DeSalvio’s Playground in the heart of SoHo. There is something for everyone. The kiddies can run around the slides, monkey bars and spider web. If you brought a basketball they can shoot a bit of hoops and if you brought their swimwear they can even cool off under cold blast from the sprinklers. Plenty of benches under shade for the parents and some water fountains to hydrate. The playground is modern and fun right on the corner of mulberry and spring streets. Pro-tip: Grab a sushi or some other reasonably priced Japanese snack at Genkiya Mart a block away and bring it to the playground. It’s a nice way to spend 30 mins or even 10 mins to reset and re-energize to go out and battle the heat, humidity and sweatiness of a New...
Read moreA decent park in a very hip, very busy part of town. Great play structure, good water feature. Amazing food and drink shops all around. Decent shade and benches for parents. Basketball court. Three, unfortunately, overflowing trash cans. No restroom in park, but some of the restaurants nearby are nice about this. Didn’t see any dogs. No good places for picnicking, other than sitting on a bench. Some...
