I feel like people should know how awful our experience was at Blue Mountain Thrift last night.
My mom and I went there for a little retail therapy. It’s been 4 years since my dad passed, and we were just trying to have a nice evening together - we’ve always liked this store. But during the last hour we were there, this man who works there was hovering and acting irritated. Every few minutes, he’d come by to remind us the store was closing soon. We got it - we weren’t planning to stay past closing or make a mess, just trying to enjoy our time.
About 20 minutes before close, we were looking at bedding in the home section and he suddenly came over and yelled at my mom to take it up to the register. It was completely uncalled for. I told him that I noticed he had been hovering and staring at us trying to get us to leave and it was making me uncomfortable, and instead of backing off, he got even more aggressive and snapped “EXCUSE ME?” like he was ready to fight. He was glaring at me like he wanted to hurt me. I was honestly shocked and started shaking.
Then he starts yelling about how he’s “been stuck putting all our clothes away all night” - which made zero sense because we hung everything up neatly on the return rack. We were being respectful the whole time.
I told him it’s literally his job, and that we didn’t do anything wrong. He storms off, and we head to the register to pay for our stuff - trying to just get out of there - and he shouts across the store, “GET OUT! YOU NEED TO GET OUT! I texted my manager and she said I can kick you out!”
It was humiliating. We weren’t being loud, rude, or causing problems. The only thing we did was stand up for ourselves because he was being a bully.
At the register, I broke down crying. It had already been such an emotional day. My mom was comforting me, reminding me that my dad would’ve wanted us to have a good night anyway. And while I’m crying, one of the girls behind the counter stifled a laugh. I couldn’t believe it.
I’ve never been treated so poorly in a place that claims to be “faith-based.”
That man was genuinely so aggressive, and I believe there is something seriously wrong with him. If I were the manager, I would take a serious look into this man whose name is "Ryan" (if that's even his real name) because he is a serious liability risk. That night was already hard enough, and Ryan from this "faith-based company" made it a...
Read moreThis place is not a thrift store anymore. The prices are INSANE now. The quality of certain items has gone downhill too. If it’s a new or unused item be prepared to buy it for retail or near-retail price. Nobody goes to thrift shops to pay retail prices. They’d literally just go to a regular store and buy it there if they did! People need to understand that this place gets all of its inventory for FREE. They don’t need to sell it high to make back what they spent to get it because they got it for NOTHING. It’s a non-profit, or so they claim. They are donated items by people and get stuff from businesses who have overstock and need to offload it. Besides that, I’ve noticed that a lot of stuff has dirt/black smudges on it they come off onto your hands (this has happened the last 4 times I’ve been there and it’s mostly the stuff on shelves, not clothes or jewelry), like it wasn’t cleaned enough before they placed them haphazardly out on shelves or just on the floor in front of overflowing disorganized shelves. I know they have a lot of stuff and cleaning all of it would be a hassle, but at least give it a good rinse or a quick wipe down with a wet cloth or something before you put it out. The only thing that hasn’t changed about this place is they have very kind and helpful employees. The main issue with this place is the greedy price hikes and the employees have nothing to do with that. As a long-time customer, I am honestly really sad to see this place I enjoyed coming to a lot in this state. You would get a lot more for your money and, I’m some cases for a lot better quality,...
Read moreI stopped in your store after dinner this evening. The store was announced to be closed in 15 minutes a few minutes after our arrival. We said thank yiu and continued shopping. 5 minutes later a older woman with glasses and a cut off t-shirt, walked aggressively toward us and another customer yelling "We are closing in 10 minutes! Take your purchases to the front!" The other customer and us looked at each other, mentioning how aggressive the woman was. We made our way to the front and that same woman was then yelling at the tall, blonde girl working with her about how to bag vs box items properly. When it was our turn to check out, the cut off t lady began yelling again, this time with us right on the other side of the counter "we are about to shut our registers down, bring your items up!" The customer across the building didnt respond so the tall blonde then yelled "we will close the register!" The lady then said back "oh i don't have anything." To which the blonde said "then leave the store." We spent nearly $30 and saw the woman we were standing next to also leaving the store with nothing. Again we spoke about the aggressiveness of so called customer service. She shrugged it off and said "thats okay, ill just go to walmart."
We do our best to support those in need and frequent "mom and pop shops" but when you are being yelled at to leave the store? No problem, we left and we will certainly not be back. Your website says "help us help those in need" but you certainly didnt help us.
Have a good weekend and I hope wherever you were rushing off to...
