This review is about six months late 🤭.
I had the opportunity to visit Breakout Myrtle Beach in October '22. I am an Escape Room Enthusiast, so I took a trip from NY to SC to go down memory lane, but also to experience some local ERs.
Given that the last time I was in SC, ERs did not exist, I Googled the ones in the area, and this one came up as a good place.
As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a friendly dead guest lol. The interior isn't as extravagant as other ERs I've been too, but it was nice. This location offers 6 rooms, 4 of which we Played and Escaped (Red Beard, Volcano, Zombie Outbreak, and Cannibal Collector). All four rooms were fun, but Red Beard was the most frustrating. Without any spoilers, the room starts off easy enough, but some of the puzzles were a bit annoying. However, my sister and I are not quitters, so we got through. Just a hint, make sure you have good aim and patience.
Staff: We met with Johnny, who was our Game Master for 3 out of the 4 rooms. He was great to work with, super friendly, and helpful. As noted in another review, it makes a big difference when your game master enjoys or at least seems to enjoy their job.
Location/Parking: BO Myrtle Beach, no relation to the Breakout ER Franchise, is located in North Myrtle Beach. It's in a cute "town-like" area, and is a few blocks from the beach. As such, it's beachy. There is parking on the street (I don't recall if it's free or not), but there is also a few free spots at the back of the building (that's where we parked). I'm not familiar with the area, in terms of safety, but the parking lot seems like it may be a little shady at night or if you are by yourself. Keep that in mind when parking.
Overall, would I recommend? YES!!! If you love Escape Rooms and/or looking to try one, AND you happen to be in the area, then go give this location a try.
We would definitely return with other people. Also, we have 2 more rooms to escape from, so yeah,...
Read moreThere were 4 people in my family and we were paired with another family of 4. This was the first time my daughter and I had gone. The others had done another escape room at the same place. When the young woman gave instructions she assumed we all knew how things worked. She blew off my questions by saying "the others will help you." So, my daughter and I basically followed trying to figure out what was going on. If the young woman had explained what the different locks were and how they worked or if she haf read the instructions that she was supposed to read, I think the experience would have been much more enjoyable. The other group that was paired with us was rather rude and didn't have a clue what the words teamwork or sharing meant so I would recommend only going with a group large enough so you are not combined with another group or you take time to talk with the people you are paired with to be clear on their methods. Also, you need to be equally considerate. It could be a good teambuilding experience for a group or a teamkilling experience depending on the dynamics of your group. There isn't any inherent design that makes a group work together although there are one or two things that may take more than one person to do. We did get out in time but I felt frustrated most of the time and really am not interested in going again. Being someone that loves puzzles and mysteries, I thought I would enjoy this as did my husband and son who had gone previously. I probably would have if it were done differently. It's too pricey in my book to try again on the chance that conditions will...
Read moreWe had high hopes after reviews online. We were a family of 4 for the zombie outbreak. We were greeted by someone when walking in, not overly friendly and enthusiastic but spoke and greeted. The rooms were decorated well but kind of plain in our opinion. The puzzles were pretty basic but a couple made no sense when we heard how they came up with one and there could be no way a lot of people get that (eyeballs on table without totally giving it away). When we were done and had completed the room it was very anti climatic and we didn’t even really know we were done. The girls working were very un enthusiastic and seemed to just want us to leave when talking to them, asking questions etc. for other escape rooms we have done. One of the parts of room wasn’t working properly and someone had to come in and try multiple time to get it to work properly, kind of took away the atmosphere but understand this may happen but just suggestion to maybe change the maze portion. For the money and cost this was in our opinion not up to par with others we have done for cheaper around Myrtle...
