Went here because I wanted seafood (well, scallops specifically) and it was rated so high on Google. We almost didn't go in because there was a line for lunch on Saturday at 1pm. But, we decided to wait and glad we did. The line moved quickly and it was shaded.
Service was quick even though the server immediately told us it would be a minute before she got to us. It wasn't that long at all.
I had the pick two seafood platter, got broiled flounder and scallops. My boyfriend got the fried flounder filet. Kids got seafood platters and chicken tenders. I got the large platter so I would have leftovers for dinner.
Everything was great! I believe it was one of the owners that came around and asked if everything was good and pointed out the homemade tarter and cocktail sauces on the table. I tried both and they were great.
The place has a "diner" feel and website says they have been around since 1948 and family owned. You can feel this vibe here, and everyone was super friendly. The place was packed the whole time we were there! The line had dissapated by the time we left but that's probably because they close at 2:30 and reopen for dinner at 4:30.
Glad we decided to stop here and would recommend this place if you are looking for a low key place with seafood and options for people who don't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have heard wonderful recommendations about this local restaurant. Even though they were crowded, they worked hard at seating people. When we arrived the line wrapped outside the building on the sidewalk. Typically a good sign. A couple in front of us told us it was a regular place for them and that everything on the menu was good. Our server, Stephanie, was amazing. She was quick to get beverages to our table and take our order even though she was quite busy. She checked back on us just the right number of times. As for the food, I would say that it was good but not as exceptional as I was expecting. I had the sugar glazed chicken, green beans, potato salad, and cooked apples. The green beans could have used a little bit more flavor like a dollop of bacon grease. The potato salad was very good. The apples were nice but not as flavorful as what I had experienced at cracker Barrel. The chicken was good but a little on the dry side. They brought bread to the table but I avoided cuz I'm trying to be good. All in all it was a good experience but I think the kitchen could do a little more to step up their game. Thanks Hoskins for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a GREAT local spot that we frequent whenever we're in Myrtle Beach. The food is great and reasonably priced, and the staff is very friendly.
There is a caveat, however. This is not a tourist spot, and it's full of locals, most of whom are elderly. So, if you're an interracial couple, you may get looked at like you're an extraterrestrial, lol.. We've been to this place every year for 4 years (and I used to come with my family every year when I was a child in the 90s) and it's been varying degrees of awkward. Sometimes it's fine and we have no issues. Other times I've had to say something to people who are staring awkwardly. It's South Carolina and most of their patrons are 60+. It is what it is. Again the staff themselves have always been pleasant (and many of the patrons as well).
Also, I want to be clear: we've never felt unsafe or unwelcomed. But it's painfully obvious that interracial couples with kids are not something they see regularly. We're from Maryland in one of the most diverse counties in the country, so this isn't something we deal with regularly at home, but the South is...
