My husband and I ate at Soho NMB a week ago-for the first time despite being warned by a family member that the service was terrible there and they did not recommend going. We went on a Friday evening and it was oddly empty- we were one party of maybe only 6 others The food and service that evening were both very good so we decided to go back with some additional family this weekend on Saturday evening. We had reservations for 6pm. We were greeted after a short wait for the hostess to get back to the front and we were seated. We ended up walking out 30 min after our reservation time due to being seated and then completely ignored by the multiple servers at the surrounding tables for 30 min (even after flagging someone down to find out who our server was). As we were walking out the manager came up to us letting us know she didn’t know we had been sitting completely unattended for so long.- even though we had asked the hostess to find our server and the hostess went and spoke to the manager who did nothing to service us. She proceeded to apologize and tell me they had a new server and a 15 yr old hostess working that evening. Neither of those facts were our (or her employees) fault. Assuming that was true and understanding the restaurant was busy (not packed but busy) she as the manager should have been jumping in to help help her new/young staff instead of hanging out at the bar with the bar tender chatting and completely ignoring table service. It was the most unprofessional exchange I think I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant. We are locals and we eat out frequently. This poorly managed business just lost what could have very well been regular, good paying customers. The manager offered to re-seat us and serve us immediately but we refused — she had over 30 min to service us while we sat there being ignored (and she was quite aware). We left and went to another local restaurant where we had a wonderful dinner and drinks and excellent service and another business in NMB earned our $250 dinner and drink bill for our family gathering. We will not be going back to soho NMB unless we hear new/better management is in place. I am not rating the food since we didn’t have any this time. This rating is about management...
Read moreWe WERE excited to try SoHo (on 21st Ave) for the first time tonight… It was about 8pm on a Monday. My husband and I walked in and noticed a slideshow with a sign that said they were understaffed. That really is the norm these days. We had what I felt were reasonable expectations considering now knowing that fact. Within 3 minutes of walking in the door, the hostess sat us at a table outside, which we loved! From that moment on, we sat at our table WITHOUT ONE WORD or acknowledgement from any other staff for 30 MINUTES. A family that was seated behind us about 5 minutes AFTER we were seated was even asked for their drink order. Did we even know who our server was? No. (It took about 10 minutes for that family to even be served their drinks!) I understand being understaffed but what is not acceptable is a lack of training, communication, and management. When you’re understaffed, those key things need to be even better. What should have happened is communication. 1.) Communication from whoever was managing the floor to whatever server was assigned to our table that they had our table. (And maybe even the 2 different servers around us being trained to notice that we had been there for a good long while without even having water!) 2.) Communication from whoever the assigned server was to set up our expectations, like: “Hi, I’m so and so, and I’ll be your server tonight. I apologize for the short delay. We are understaffed so I appreciate your patience. Let me go ahead and get your drinks for you even though it might be about 10 minutes before I can get your order.”
And before whoever answers these reviews asks, no we did not talk to a manager because honestly what good would that have done after 30 minutes of radio silence? I was ticked and ticked on vacation is no bueno. After waiting 30 minutes without ANY service, we warned the table next to us and got up and left— taking our $100+ order of...
Read moreI went to the bar to order to go food for 3 of us.
The bartender was very dismissive from the start, there were only six people in the restaurant... it was 4:30-5:30 in the afternoon.
I asked politely...the girls at home would like a lot of sauces with our food, white sauce, soy sauce etc. ?
Her reply ("we have over 30 sauces....do you want me to name them all?")
I said no... how about recommended sauces for the three dishes that we ordered?
This was after waiting for her for at least 4 minutes while she discussed "something" with a waitress at the cash register before she even acknowledged my being there at the bar.
I acknowledge that people who get "to go" orders probably don't tip most of the time... but that is not the case with me and my family.
I grew up in the restaurant business and I am still in the service business arena.
I said we are about a 20-minute drive from here can you please make sure our order is correct?
She huffed and puffed and said she packed it herself and it was correct...
Our bill was $92.00ish and I left a $20 dollar bill (cash) for the tip on the to-go dinner.
I got all the way to the condo and it was missing an ENTREE...
WOW! JUST WOW...
As you can see, I leave very fair reviews... 95% of them positive only 5% negative... I only leave the negative ones when I feel like it is deserved.
We got the food home and it was terrible...
Photos of the 4 pounds of "Mush" that they packed into Styrofoam containers are included.
The other 2 entrees were gross "mush" as well.
Any first year restaurateur knows this... "STYROFOAM is for leftovers"...You should have good take out plastic for Take-Out Food. Charge for it if necessary, we get it.
If you doubt this review I can post more awful pictures of the...
