I purchased a pair of Birkenstock's for my husbands birthday at Synergy in Northampton. I specifically asked the sales associate to help me with the size (they come in European sizes) and she got me two sizes too large. I specifically asked what the return policy is and was told with receipt - a refund and without - an exchange. Which suited me because I live 2+ hours away and wasn't sure when I could return if I should have to exchange the size. Surprise, when I tried to exchange (a few months later) the sales assoc. happily told me - sorry nothing we can do. I had the original tag on it and they had never been worn. The tag even has their store name. What a waste of my time, money and energy! Thanks...

I believe Synergy absolutely has a body-type bias for women's clothes. I felt unwelcome and it felt intentional and fat-phobic. I don't feel this way in a lot of stores. This is try #4 at Synergy, and you think I'm done.
Familiar brands that I know do XL and XXL. Almost universally, the largest size available is L. Went through 3 or 4 racks of new arrivals, withost items appearing freshly displayed and plenty of XS, S, M, and L.
