Good evening, I can’t say enough great things about the people who work at the Oasis of Norton Shores. If I could give them more stars I would.
We were faced with a 30 day deadline to move my mother and father from the facility where they lived due to specific care issues my mother needed. The staff worked to quickly get my parents housed and integrated into their facility.
My mother had specific care needs, she is non- verbal and non-mobile, that require us to bring in outside staff during the day. The Oasis staff worked with our outside agency to cover my mother day and night. The Oasis management worked to coordinate communication between their staff and our outside groups.
My father also had extensive health issues that caused a lot of pain. He was not always an agreeable resident. I apologized to everyone for his behavior but they all understood he was in pain and never took it personally. They took excellent care of him and were always looking for ways to make him more comfortable.
My father told me the night staff took excellent care of my very vulnerable mother. My father enjoyed the food and tried to take part in the activities as best as he could.
Everyone was always very upbeat and pleasant.
My father entered hospice and passed recently due to his illness. The staff monitored him hourly while he was actively passing when I could not be there always able to update me when I called. They worked with the Hospice team to facilitate care for my dad.
When I arrived at his final passing, I found a room of staff surrounding my father. Several were crying. I felt like he was loved and cared for so well while he was a resident.
Several staff came to the visitation and funeral for him.
My mother is still there and as I said is non-mobile and non-verbal. I am completely comfortable with the Oasis staff caring for her at night. I visit all the time at odd times. Staff are always attending her and know her name. If she is awake they always talk to her.
I will have to bring her home because I live in Grand Rapids but if things were different I would choose the Oasis again for either of my parents.
The management has made it more than business arrangement. The decline of my father was an emotional time for my family. The management always made time to talk and acted as much as counselors as facility management.
The facility seems like it is adding residents all the time. As a business grows it will need to add staff, who will need training. I felt like they handled these issues well. Any business will have its issues. But I enjoyed all the staff we have...
Read moreNo senior living facility is going to be perfect but The Oasis is lightyears ahead of many others. The food is a huge highlight. They have a wonderfully crafted homemade menu. But the most important thing about The Oasis is that every single staff member genuinely cares about every single resident. My grandfather could be a challenge here and there but he knew very well that the staff all cared so much for him. Knowing that he had love from everyone around him in the times I was not there means the world and more to me. I can’t thank everyone at The Oasis enough for looking after my grandfather as wonderfully...
