I would just love to give a HUGE shoutout to Rachel and the whole team back at the Salon at this location!!

I have just recently started going to the Ulta salon to see Rachel, and I am so glad I did! Rachel is so sweet, and she always makes sure I am getting the best care and we have a perfect plan for my hair. She always wants to make sure her clients are comfortable and are going to leave loving their new look!! She has also recommended a couple of really good products that I have started to use that never would have been on my radar had I not gone to the Ulta Salon!! I think that’s a great pro to going to this salon as well- they are very well stocked/equipped with good products, and since it is also a fully operational retail store too you have so many products to look at after your appointment too! I feel like the products I have found at Ulta now that I am slowly incorporating into my routine are helping me be super confident in how my hair looks!

I was telling Rachel about how I was getting bored of my hair but didn’t want to do an all over change and still wanted to give my hair a break from the vivid fun colors, and we ended up doing ghost roots which I am LOVING!! The little bit of blonde was exactly what I needed for the summertime and it’s so fun and creative!

I cannot recommend her enough!! Whether you want to do something unique or just want a simple cut or color, Rachel is your girl! She is such a kind person and I always look forward to being in her chair!! She has the best energy and will have you talking and laughing throughout the appointment and it seriously feels like you’re there for 5 minutes because it makes the time fly by. In the last year I've visited the store numerous times, but the 2 times I've gone to purchase cologne or perfume the experience has been less than welcoming. The 2 times shopping in THAT section the staff made it obvious that shoplifting in the perfume/cologne section is a major problem for this store. At one point during my last trip to Norton Shores, Ulta, I was asked by a staff member, 'Why I was leaving the perfume test swatches by specific bottles.' I told her I was trying to find my favorite smell and I didn't want to forget which bottle the scent came from so I left it by the bottle so I could go back to it while I continue to see if there's another perfume I like more. I assured her I'd throw the 4 paper pieces away when I chose my favorite. She told me 'They've seen customers do the same thing and then they will have a secret partner in the store come behind them and steal the 'marked' perfume.' 😳 I assured her that's not what I'm doing and explained for the 3rd time, that I was looking for a new perfume for myself, for my birthday. In the 30 minutes I was their, I was probably asked 9 times if I needed help by 4 different staff members. When they weren't asking me if I needed help, one would be within 5 feet watching or another would come spark up unrelated small talk. IF the problem is that bad, you should invest in a full time perfume/cologne security camera watchperson instead of alienating ALL of your LOYAL and PAYING customers. I love shopping at ulta, however the other day i tried the salon to get my hair highlighted. They booked me with the salon manager Mary. I thought wow, since this cost me $230 it is going to look amazing. Wrong. It wasnt a total nightmare, but more like a $50 job. So after seeing it in some different lighting, my roots were yellow, brassy and than after about an inch they were a pretty blonde. So i go in to ask her if she will tone it and toss some highlights in the roots and she argued with me about the job. Told me that toning it will turn in grey, and im like no, not if you do it correctly. Well she gives me attitude but does what i ask. She did end up turning a small piece grey. When i was obviously horrified she was like "well i told you that would happen" after a little more attitude she said she knows a technique to fix the grey piece, brings me back to the sink and fixes it. After this the color looked great. But why did she have to argue, why couldnt she have fixed the small grey piece without the attitude. For $230 I expect my hair to look amazing. I dont mind paying whatever it takes for great looking hair, however we are in muskegon, not hollywood.That amount of money is pretty extreme.
