Nordstrom — Local services in Oak Brook

This review is a reflection of my alteration experience that happened recently.

I purchased a suit through Nordstrom for my wedding and brought it in to get altered (pants hemmed and the sleeves as well). During my appointment I told them it was for my wedding and that I needed it by a certain date. They said it would be ready by 8/16 and that I would get a text when it was ready. I also explained to them that I live in Wisconsin (an hour away) and that I was in town locally to this Nordstrom on the weekend visiting my parents nearby and I was assured it would be ready for the 16th which is what my receipt said (and this also gave me 2 weeks in case the job wasn't done properly).

Fast forward to 8/15 when I get a call from Daniel from alterations. He said that the department "was behind" and if it was okay if they could have my items ready later in the week. I explained to him that I was getting married and he understood and said that it would be ready by the date on my receipt. He was actually very kind and apologetic about the situation and thanked me for my patience.

I hadn't received any notification on the 16th so I called and spoke with Nataliya (sp?). She was incredibly rude and short with me on the phone. She kept on saying that it was the "anniversary sale" and that they were overworked and busy. I said that I understood that and explained about my wedding, me coming in from out of town and that when they give a date an item should be ready they should honor that. I didn't appreciate her tone so I asked to speak a manager and she refused to transfer me. She then got short and said "fine, when I hang up I will start yours." Start. It was around 5 pm on the date my suit was supposed to be ready and they hadn't even started it yet. I did get a text that my suit was ready but that was after the store had already closed.

I went in the next morning to pick up my suit and that was a disaster. I got to the store at 11 am on the dot (when they open) and there were 13 people in line to pick up orders. For 20 mins we all stood there, our line getting longer, and the staff bypassing us to keep doing returns. It got to the point where a lady in front of me was on the phone and said to me "I'm calling to see if I can get a manager on the phone" but she didn't have any luck. Anyways, I got my suit and went to try it on and I ran into Nataliya once again.

She looked at me and said "I remember you..." and went on and on about how I was the "only one who asked to speak to a manager" and once again that she had to work until 9 and they were busy with the "anniversary sale". Once again, not once on the phone or in person did she ever show any compassion or empathy. Not once did she offer an apology. I calmly told her that I understood that, but that really wasn't any of my concern because the date/time they give me they should honor that. She then took it to the next level in rudeness when she snapped at me and said "you had to wait 2 weeks, next time we'll make you wait 4 weeks..." I just about had it after this.

I tried my suit on and the sleeves weren't done properly. She insisted they were the same length, but based on what joint in my thumb each sleeve hit on, they weren't. I was beyond aggravated with this entire experience so I took my suit and left.

So thanks Nordstrom alterations. Thanks for making what's supposed to be a huge moment in my life a bit of a hassle. Daniel is the only reason I'm leaving 1 star, because he actually handled the situation with dignity and class. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the others. Nordstrom at Oak Brook Center is still the top standard/high watermark of all department stores. The service at this Nordstrom is exceptional. I shop in the men’s clothing and shoe department on an intermittent basis. The associates who work these sections, especially in the clothing department, really have a fashion sense contextually for each individual.

Daniel gave me EXTRAORDINARY assistance in meticulously picking out numerous fashionable pieces that were right on point based on my my must-have foundational fashion preferences like a certain fit, cut, look, etc.

Daniel offered the most extraordinary customer service anyone could ever hope for. He didn’t just do his job. He offered an authentic, transparent, two-way conversation and proactively brought me various items to try on that were amazing and would have taken me numerous visits to find and or that I could never find on my own.

Daniel has a true eye and fashion sense; and he contextually knows how to help the customer attain a fashion / clothing goal beyond and to the next level than one could imagine or hope for.

Many of us have an idea of what we like or wish we could be wearing if availability of items and a budget allowed. We also tend to gravitate towards colors and solids and/or patterns that are safe and know we like; yet branching out into other styles and colors and possible patterns invokes fear (lol) and doubt.

I will also ask my fiancé and or others if certain things or colors look good on me because I have a propensity for not liking them or thinking they don’t look good on me.

This is where Daniel was able to also help me branch out by meticulously picking out clothing pieces for me that were not only an excellent cut and fit and style but also had exceptional color and pattern, and when I put them on, I instantly fell in love with them.

We often don’t know what we truly need or looks good and need the help of an honest expert to help us bravely see the light.

Update: I needed to come back to Nordstrom the very next day (Monday), and when I got here at 6:17 PM it was closed! There were numerous other individuals who were trying to get into the store and wondering why it was closed when it’s normally open until 9 PM on Mondays.

We ended up calling the store and we found out it was inventory. I have to say that was very tacky. I’m sorely disappointed with the corporate staff who runs all the Nordstrom‘s for we discovered that the other Nordstrom‘s in the suburban area we’re also closed for inventory.

Do you know how many of us came out and spent how much in gas and time to just discover that a department store closed three hours early for inventory? Why don’t you do inventory when you’re closed like all other retail establishments, including the one I work for?!

We would never close hours before our closing time for inventory.

I am not going to take away the five stars that the actual sales associates like Daniel, completely earned and deserved just because the corporate jet set decided to ruin the day of potentially hundreds of individuals coming out to be turned away at each...

I came in on a Thursday morning, it wasn’t terribly busy but certainly most employees seemed to have their hands full. I went in trying to find jeans for college, I always seem to be helped very quickly if I’m with my parents, so being by myself I never thought i would be treated any differently. To say the least ,I was most definitely wrong , so I walked in, I started to grab a handful of jeans. I had maybe 10-12 pairs In my hands so I thought hey maybe someone who works here will come up to me and ask if I need a dressing room. Well no one ended up coming up to me at all. I walked around for about 40 min with the jeans in my hands just looking around more or less, while waiting for someone who worked there to help. It wasn’t until I figured out that there was an employee who did work there a few feet away from me and she said she thought I was an employee there ? I wasn’t dressed in anything to nice just some vans , jeans and a graphic vineyard vines tee. That kinda felt a little rude as I had just carried around the same jeans for almost an hour at that point. As well as that I’m not quite sure why she didn’t know who did and who didn’t work in her department, within the whole time I wondered around looking around I had stayed in the same section the entire time. Anyway once I got to try the jeans on she never came back to ask if I needed different sizes of what I had, she just left so after I was done trying on jeans I just walked out to go look at more jeans , she was no where I could see so I decided someone else will likely come up to me to help me find the type of jeans that I was looking for. It wasn’t until I saw this employee downright ignore me for 10-15 min of looking though jeans unill I came up to him and explained I was looking for jeans for collage and the second I said I had anywhere from a 1-2 thousand dollar budget that he was genuinely interested in trying to find an option that fit me and fit what I wanted. I only Ended up going with 2 pairs of jeans witch I’m picking up today (11 days after I purchased them). So I hope I’m not going to have to beg to get service this time. That being said I still gave it 3 stars because I know just how helpful they can be, unfortunately this time I felt kinda unhappy with the service. I was able to send the reminder of my budget at other places , but I wish I would’ve had a more positive experience so I didn’t have to feel the need to go elsewhere just to find a company who would Show me things that they...
