Ballard J & Son Upholstery — Local services in Pacific Grove

We went to this shop based on Nextdoor recommendations. It was a very disappointing experience and we wonder whether the original owners have sold their interest or people were offering reviews of work performed from many years past?

First, the shop has irregular hours. On our first visit, no one was there during posted business hours. Prior to going back, we called to confirm the shop was still open. Our call was answered. We were asked to come to the shop at an appointed time that day as opposed to just simply walking in since they had deliveries to make. That was fine with us and understandable.

However, when we arrived at our appointed time, we were told the individual we needed to meet was busy and were asked to wait. Ok. But after 10 minutes twiddling our thumbs, another customer walked in, marched to the back of the store, and was helped.

Our job was a fairly simple one - recover six dining chairs with leather we had purchased. Not sure why the Ballard employee that helped the pushy customer could not have written our ticket.

That is when I had the brilliant thought, let's go to the other highly recommended shop in PG, Cesar's. We left. As we were closing our car door, the employee came running out of the store. We simply waved.

We were greeted right away by Cesar and received beautifully recovered dining chairs well ahead of the anticipated schedule.

Maybe Ballard was having an off day. But it cost them money and pushed a future customer to...

I dropped off some curtains for my RV that need to be covered, thinking if they do a good job, i will have them finish up on the rest of the curtains, over 25 yards with of work,the person there says to leave my item here and his boss will call me with a price quote before he started the work.after waiting over a week with no call back, I tried calling them, no answered, I left a message, then I show up on a Monday to pick up my unfinished curtain at 3:00pm, their sign says that they close at 5pm, but it was only 3pm, I came back the next day to grab my item. I was very unhappy with their unprofessionalism. I wouldn't recommend...

We just received our newly upholstered 35 year old sofa and could not be more pleased. Francisco and the J Ballard crew gave us a good price and reasonable finish time. They picked up and delivered sensitive to our time schedule....
