A group of friends and I did 2 of the three escape rooms at this facility, the cabin and the space themed rooms. They were cute rooms and the husband and wife team that lead assisted us were very nice. However, I find myself unable to give this place more then 3 stars due to something we noticed during both our rooms. It appears like some of the puzzles need to be set off manually by whoever is observing the group in the escape room.
The reason I say this is because in both rooms, there were times where we solved a puzzle correctly, nothing happened, and we ended up wasting a hint just to be told to go back to the same puzzle and solve it again. In many instances there was no difference to the way we solved it previously and now, the only notable difference was we had confirmation the game master was paying attention when we solved the puzzle the second time. We're Veteran Escape Room goers, and are familiar with how manual rewards and automated rewards are usually distributed in rooms, so initially it wasn't off-putting that some of these elements appeared to be manual. However it happened several times, in various different styles of puzzles, which made the entire experience chunky feeling.
I can't tell if it was because our group of 6 tends to be a little ADHD and we break into groups to solve different puzzles at the same time (in this case we were probably working 2-3 puzzles at a time) and maybe our game master hadn't seen some of the puzzles solved to trigger that we had already solved something.
There was also an issue where in the space room we had tried asking for a hint several times and got no response, so I'm not sure if there were also technical issues or maybe the husband and wife were overwhelmed since there were three games running at once, but we never got an explanation as to why we had serious stalling in the space room. Overall it felt like we were kind of left alone set to fail on any puzzle that required a manual button push from the game makers side to help us progress.
I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing to have some things more manually, but we did feel frustrated as it felt like we had wasted hints because the solving of something was missed, especially if it was a smaller puzzle. I feel like if there are manual elements in an escape room, we as the problem solvers should be made aware, that way we know not to be doing 100 things at once that can cause confusion to the game master who has to hit a switch to have the puzzle solve. We did escape both rooms, but I'm not sure we would return to this location because of the clunky play-through of our...
Read moreWeâve never been to an escape room. It was something we always wanted to do but had no clue if we would like it. Thereâs not much information online on how to âjust goâ for the first time. Iâm SO glad we chose Twisted Escapes as our first place. We did âThe Cabinâ. We loved it.
We were a little clueless! But our host / game master / owner could not have more considerate, kind, or helpful. They were so kind to our 8 year old daughter we brought with us as well. She realized we had no idea what we were doing and was so kind and thoughtful and supportive. We never felt dumb, stupid or lost. (And we should have)
We just were able to laugh off our mistakes and keep moving forward. I think if we wouldâve gone anywhere else- it wouldnât have been such an understanding and calm environment. And we never wouldâve been brave enough to try again.
We canât wait to go back as a family! But have already called our friends and plan to do date nights with friends. It is worth every penny. So if youâre new or scared to try- like we were, please just try it here! They will support you and help you. And itâs...
Read moreWe went out of the blue to get out of the house after being in quarantine. We were soooo happy that we did!! Katie and Frank were great. They went above and beyond to make sure our first time to an escape room was memorable! We finished after closing time and they still had a whole conversation with us. They honestly made our first experience great! The room was awesome. We decided to do an easier one called Adrift but we can't wait to go back and experience the other two and of course to say hi to our new friends! đ
Check it out if you are in the area. You won't be...
