Desi Global Mart Nepali and Indian store — Local services in Peters Township

This place opened up a few weeks ago and it is a nice addition to the shopping needs for Peters Township. I got the chance to chat with the owner and owner's son on consecutive visits. They are trying to establish themselves and figure out what the local market wants, so they are very open to requests for special orders!

In our case, we asked them for several items that are either needed for Thai recipes, or that we have not found in the Indian-focused markets in other parts of the South Hills, and they promised to bring them in within a week.

They do feature a lot of Indian items, but have a nice selection of Thai items as well. Produce, spices, and various cooking utensils and snacks all pack this relatively small store. It is definitely worth a visit!

We picked up some Trumpet mushrooms, Thai chilies, and saw Long beans which you cannot find elsewhere and were astounded by how reasonable the prices were. We wanted to get some of the high quality Basmati rice they have, but the smallest package they had was 12 lb, which was a bit much for our needs.

We will definitely be frequenting this place ourselves, and spreading the word...

INCREDIBLE customer service! Literally the BEST service from an ethnic grocery store that my mom or I have experienced in our lives. We stopped in to check out their fresh produce, as we can often find good fresh okra and eggplant at Indian grocery stores. We found that, and also delicious fresh local goat. The owners were so kind to ask us if there was anything in particular we were looking for, and placed a special order for us. The special order was there as promised within a week. My mom was able to get fresh African vegetables that she had not found in her 30 years in the US. It made her so happy! Fresh cassava leaves, sour sour leaves, and sweet potato leaves. So glad this store opened up in town and we don't have to go all the way to Pittsburgh for our Indian grocery needs. The owner and son are kind and running the store well. Highly recommend for any Indian kitchen, cooking or basic puja supplies. Decent prices too, will be my new...
